That makes sense. Mine is the same other than the single side. My single end pipe is
2 1/4 long and that is the side i am having trouble with. I will be able to make it work now that i know where my problem is. I will likely still gey my buddy involved. He is mad that i didn’t just buy a muffler and let him build the rest.

    Thanks

Not had time to work on the exhaust but did pull the cover off the rear end. I had thought I had to much play in the spider gears and after taking the cover of i see why. The spider gears have worn into the center section and are very loose. I will need to find another center section. Anyone have an extra with spider gears?

I give up on the exhaust. I can do most anything mechanical on a car but I can’t do exhaust work. I took it to my buddy’s house and he is doing it for me. I was real close but just couldn’t get it right.

I need to know if there is a measurement for how far the tips are out the back? I can’t find the info anywhere.

    Hi Eric,
I do not have the exact measurement for the placement of the end of the tips extending beyond the back of the car. I have one factory pic of a side profile where a tip shows and the tip is less extended than I mount them on the Jetfires I have restored. Many F-85’s, including Jetfires, that I have seen in salvage yards over the years have the back gravel shield rusted away in the exhaust outlet area, so I extend the tips slightly further out than the factory did.
In the attached pic of one of my cars, the end of the tip is 4 & 1/2″ out from the inside edge of the gravel shield. It seams to be a good location for function and appearance.
