ParticipantI run 15 x 6 with 3 5/8′ backspace I think, no problem with 205 65 15.

Participant
Well that explains why yours fit no problem. I installed 16×7
What difference does that make? A 205 tire is still 205 MM wide (OK, give or take a little due to the rim width). My 205/70-14s are 25.3″ diameter and 8″ section width. 205/60-16s are 25.7″ in diameter and 8″ section width. My friend’s 215/60-15s are 25.2″ in diameter and just about 8.5″ wide, and they also fit fine.

ParticipantMy rims are 7″ inches wide whereas yours are 6″wide. The 8.43 section width is based on a 6.5 inch rim.For every 1/2 inch you add 2/10ths.That makes my section width 8.63.Anyone have issues with the inner part of the rim rubbing on the suspension?

Correct, and an extra 0.2″ of section width means all of 1/10″ wider on each side. I have waaaay more than 1/10″ of clearance to my fender lips.

ParticipantActually, I’m not sure where you got this 2/10″ per half inch of width formula. That will actually vary based on sidewall height.

ParticipantAny website has that info

Participantthis is taken from tire tech
Note: The overall diameter of a steel belted radial is determined by the steel belts, there is little, if any, change to the overall diameter of the tire due to differences in rim width.
The industry rule of thumb is that for every 1/2″ change in rim width, the tire’s section width will correspondingly change by approximately 2/10″.
For example: a tire in the P205/60R15 size is measured on a 6.0″ wide wheel and this size tire has an approved rim width range from 5.5″ to 7.5″ wide. The tire has a section width of 8.23″ (209mm) when mounted on a 6.0″ wide wheel. If that tire were mounted on all of the rims within its approved range, the tire’s approximate section width would change as follows:

ParticipantOh, well, if it’s on the internet, then….
Look, I understand that tire section width will vary with wheel width for a given tire, but common sense should tell you that the exact amount of change will depend on the height of the sidewall and on the difference between the section width and the rim width. This can’t be a single number for ALL tires and ALL rims. In any case, my point above still stands. With my 6″ wide wheels and 205/70 tires, I have more than 1/2″ clearance to the fender lip.
