Hey all,
Jim rebuilt the turbo and that was the first thing I did on this. It is garnet mist with a white top. The paint shop had no trouble matching the color. I just gave them the GM color code that’s off of the cowl tag and they matched it up. In the background is a blue ’62 Cutlass that I found in the Phoenix, Arizona area about 20…[Read more]

Are you talking for between the box and the firewall? I am not sure what the proper stuff is but I think I am going to use 3-M strip caulk

Very nice job Bruce! It’s exciting watching these cars go back together. Especially a 4-speed Jetfire! Can’t wait to see it finished.

What does anyone recommend for the heater core bix gasket for the 62 cutlass?

Someone here has mentioned about this clip (or heater hose hook) before and not sure who it was? Maybe Jim? This is the first time I have ever found one of these hooks. It goes on the bottom of the heater core box and holds a heater hose. I had the parts car for almost two years and just now found it. This hook has been long lost on both of my…[Read more]

The blow out took the tail of the fender and rolled it up into the wheel well. Btw the car even came with a ‘California snow tire’ Judy told me they never had salt on the roads in the mountains back then, just in the city but they did get the occasional snowfall and when it did no one went out when it snowed.

Our trip to California was great. We arrived late Saturday night and due to the fact that we were paying for the car with a certified check we could not finalize the deal until the bank opened Monday. We had a chance to see the car but not on a hoist as their shop was full of vehicles that needed to be rolled outside so that was put off until…[Read more]

Here is a pic of my air cleaner on my “original” ’62. I don’t think the factory assembly personnel payed too much attention to the label placement.

Hi Bruce,
Looks very nice! Looks like this will be the twin to your Cutlass 4-speed. Cool! Restoration plans for other ’62 in background? -

Is that royal mist or garnet mist? Did you have trouble matching the paint? Mine are royal mist and the body guy had fits getting the color right.

Yes, no doubt ‘close enough’ was often the way. I say make it the way yours was as that was ‘correct’ for your car! However I would NOT make it crooked as that would drive just about anyone nuts – no need to be OCD for that!
However having said all that, I have been ‘spending some quality time’ with my assembly manual and the moment I saw your…[Read more] -

Hey guys,
I thought I’d post some pictures of the current state of my ongoing ’62 Jetfire 4 spd. restoration project. This project has been going on for some years and I’ve had quite a bit of help from my friends, including a number of you guys (Jim, Eric, Ken, John Gage, etc.). I’m trying to get this out of my shop so I can tear it…[Read more]

Just had a fried send me this blue one. I will not be using it on my car but do plan to cosmetically restore the engine I got from Ken Dennison to a really high level for a display and will likely use it on that engine.

The first picture is of my original air cleaner to my 4 speed car. It don’t match what the manual says. The last two pictures are of the original to my wifes car before I bead blasted it and redone it the first time. I did not know of the assembly manual at the time so took measurements of that one. It was crooked from the factory and was very…[Read more]

I did get word yesterday that my windshield wiper motor will be delayed. The place he is using for zinc plating has a military contract that has all priority and then Chicago shut them down over the virus. I guess the feds have to get involved over Chicago shutting them down. When they are running again, this stuff is on the back burner. He…[Read more]

I Knew it was in the manual but I was going by the original one from my car. I am not sure how I ended up with it off because I had them side by side. I decided to not restore the original one from my car and keep as an original reference. I ended up pulling this one off my wifes car and restoring it but I am going to do another one and the best…[Read more]
