Eric, the assembly manual has dimensions for the air cleaner decals. It actually goes up to the cover on the side.

I have the air cleaner finished. The decal is about 1/4 inch off center but I don’t think it will bother me any. Thought about warming it up and taking it off to redo it. I think I will just leave it as is.

One side goes to the choke housing, I assume you are talking about picture two goes to the choke? The other line from the other side, all it is will be a filtered air supply and not hooked to a vacuum source. I am not sure if the 2 and 4 bbl had them hook to the air cleaner or if there is a port at the top of the carburetor for it. It the port for…[Read more]

Had some time tonight so started polishing the chrome interior screws. Polished them and then blew out the polish from the heads and wiped them down again. This is just a small sample of the interior screws. Man do these have lots of chrome screws on the interior.

More bead blasting today. Also cut out the rubber strips for the front corners of the fenders. I wanted to find staples like the originals but I will likely just get some wire and make my own. My original parts for the headlight area were not any good so luckily I have some good ones from another car.

I started on this tank a year ago. The original tank was not undercoated and was really rough. It even sprung a little leak at the seam. I pulled this tank from another 62 Cutlass and was undercoated. So far, All the Jetfire cars and parts cars I have had never had undercoating on the tanks and the Cutlass’ cars did. I already had the tank dried…[Read more]

Diamond Back does not make tires. They take name brand black wall tires and customize them for you. You are still limited to what is available in specific sizes: as we know not all brands come in all sizes and they deal with many major brands. They actually use a vinyl product and the black rubber can not bleed thru like the old white walls did…[Read more]

Yeah I know. Unfortunately my orig door panels with the lower patterned plastic were toast, due to the conditions I note above for the carpet. I was able to pick up some coupe door panels with carpet in very nice condition for a very reasonable price from a member vs. $900 each for repro from SMS. They look great and I’m happy with them, this…[Read more]

Door panels were NOT trimmed with carped lowers on convertibles. For the F-85 offerings (Cutlass and Jetfire) that did have carpeted lower door panels, they matched the floor carpets.

No carpet. Convertible with 40 years of barn storage, some outside weather exposure, rats, squirrels left no carpet that wasn’t rotted away or mostly not there. Don’t want to touch the panel, it’s like new, very nice.
Had a thought about colors- does the floor carpet typically match the panel carpet or is it two tone like the seats? So if the p…[Read more]

Very cool! I had not heard of them before. The white walls they offer for my size is to wide at 2.5 inches but looks like they offer a custom whitewall. Not sure how much that would cost but I will at least check and see.
Here are pictures of my original spare 15 inch tire. -

Have you checked with Diamond Back Classic Radials Eric? We use them on all our old cars where we want something special!

It will be white wall radials with a thinner white wall than the originals. I can’t find a radial with the original style 15 inch white wall. I may have the original wheels repainted and use the old bias ply tires with the correct white walls for shows and then the radials for driving. Sounds good but in reality, I will not likely do the work and…[Read more]

How is the carpet you have? Other than the color? If your carpet is at all usable, I would not replace it and just get some SEM interior paint that matches close and spray the carpet and then if it is not an exact match, just spray the panel carpet also. I have no experience with aftermarket carpet for these cars.

High quality paint and body work is not cheap. My car was completed in 2009 and my body guy was a good friend that said it was worth about $10K at the time. I got off for significantly less since he was a friend. With inflation your cost is probably not too bad. Alas, my friend passed away around 6 years ago from a rare kidney disease.

I can’t seem to find my post from a short time ago on this subject so Im posting again.
It seems all the suppliers I found sell ACC carpet, or to be more specific ACC is a supplier to all the other retailers I found. SMS being the most expensive, ACC second, Stock Interiors a lot less, and others falling in line somewhere. They either advertise…[Read more]
