I always wondered where the name came from. A Cutlass is a sword, but F-85? Until I saw this F-86 Sabre, a Sabre is also a sword. It was the Jet-Age and Space-Age after all.

My wife and I have seen that before when we stayed at one. It has to be 61 or 62 because the 63 says transistor radio on it. We have had good experiences at all the Hampton Inn’s we have stayed at.

Nice job on the radio! Coincidentally, I recently stayed at a Hampton Inn Hotel on business and their artwork program consisted of black and white travel related photos. The room I stayed in had a room number sign with a photo of the F-85 radio on it. I just had to photograph it.

The radio looked really good to start with. The worst part of the front was the lens was foggy. It don’t look that bad in the before picture but it was in person. Turned out that the worst part of the fog was on the inside. The chrome was real nice and I just polished it up. Other than that I just cleaned all the dust off the case and from the inside.

I told him that since I can’t hear the engine run like he said and since he does not have a title like he said I would give him $1700 and not a penny more. He said no. I told him to let me know when he don’t get any other offers.
As far as windshield moldings, are you talking about exterior? I believe I have good ones. Would need polished but I…[Read more]

Well, when are you picking it up? It’s just a part out, too far gone. I could use windshield moldings and left side trim pieces.

About 3 minutes before the auction ended I sent him a message on Facebook that I would give him $1500 for the car when the buyer don’t pan out, lol. He replied no thanks. I told him he should have taken the $3K I was going to pay him. I am sure he is kicking himself now. I could be wrong but I believe the last real bid was either $1725 or $1350.…[Read more]

And to add to what Joe said, Many people knew that CarQuest filters were Wix but they are not any more. Car Quest was bought out by Advance auto parts and kept the name but changed the parts.

Jim is correct. The progression on oil filters used on the BOP motors was PF7 to PF30 to PF24. The white AC filters are period correct. The blue ones are newer. Brand new production AC filters are horrible. The quality is very poor and the materials are much thinner. I use the Wix 51409 on my later Olds motors, but I use the 51258 on my 215 as it…[Read more]

Had some more time so I took the radio apart and cleaned it up. I did not touch the circuits because it works good. Some of the vintage tube radio people say it is best to fix these before broken but I am going to leave it alone other than detail it inside and out. The speaker also works good. The top side has faded but the back side looks like…[Read more]

Some further research and help from members brings back three PF numbers to me. I think the first filter was the PF 7, then replaced by or an alternate of a PF 30, then ultimately a PF 24. A modern replacement that I have been using is Wix 51049.

I believe it is AC #PF-24. There was no Delco on it. I did my research over 10 years ago for my Cutlass and don’t know if the Cutlass used the same oil filter as the Jetfire. You can get a repro sticker on ebay:

Jim Noel replied to the topic 62 vs 63 washer tanks in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 1 month ago
Hi Eric,
I have thought that the tank you call a 1962 was molded with the side indention to accommodate the air conditioning coolant tube from the condenser? The 1963 A/C condenser tube must run through the core support in a different place or the washer tank would not fit. I have not looked close at a 1963 with two speed wiper/washer and A/C. - Load More
