The original tape is 1 inch but I used 1 1/4. I can’t find any that is the same thickness as original so I like the 1 1/4 so I can overlap it extra each turn. I overlap it a little over half the width of the tape. If you overlap it enough you can’t tell it is wider tape and at the same time, it adds to the thickness and protection.

I see that it chose my first photo as the ‘cover photo’. I would just like to say that the photo was taken the day after we got it home, the car got a quick wash, no detailing: just to knock the road grime off it. Note the very spotty bumper and grime caked in the Jetfire logo etc. Far from a ‘cover girl’ photo…..lol. BTW: that grime is…[Read more]

So Eric, is 1 1/4″ the correct width for our cars? I was on A.A.W’s site and they only show that size. That other video from Lectric Limited said there was various widths depending on car etc.

Thanks for posting here. From the pictures I have seen, you are doing a great job with the car. I completely understand when people want to modify cars and restomod cars. It is a fun section of the car hobby on certain cars. That said, I feel you made the right decision for your Jetfire. The rarity of them and lack of peoples knowledge of them…[Read more]

Wire harness tape has no adhesive on it. It just stretches into place as you wrap it around the wiring. It clings to itself well when it is slightly stretched. The difficult part is tying it off when you get to the end. This video helps.
and this video is super cool to watch.…[Read more]

I have been encouraged to post a thread about my 63 Jetfire and its preservation/restoration. I am not sure what to call what we are doing: we are not truly restoring it: we are just ‘fixing it up’ and getting it back on the road after sitting in a drive in shed of the original owner in California for 33 years! Usually when we restore a car we…[Read more]

Hey Eric, looks like you are doing a super job. I have never restored a car to ‘concours’ quality and our 63 will not be truly concours either but I will be closer than any car we have done in the past and I will do what I can to have it appear as correct as I can. I am wondering where you get the ‘proper’ type of harness tapes? You said…[Read more]

This is why every plug needs to come apart when restoring a car. two of them cleaned up nice but the others have to be replaced. I have the correct ones coming and the proper crimp tool for this style crimp.

I was mistaken, They used the high heat tape for the wire harness where it runs behind the heater box to the engine. Along the valve cover under the turbo is regular wire harness tape. Not really sure why they decided to not use the high heat tape near the turbo. That part of the harness tape was hard as a rock.
I got all the main harness…[Read more]

The harness that stretches under the hood is simply not going to do for this car. I cleaned it but it just is not good enough. I decided to retape the entire thing. I got some harness tape for it and also so high heat harness tape for where it runs under the turbo. The original high heat tape is a gooey mess from oil penetrating it. I am pulling…[Read more]

I have been buying all the vintage magazines I can that have images of the Jetfire to figure out what colors are correct for hardware and bolts. Most images are black and white but still get a feel of what they are. Lately I have been trying to decide on the radiator color and found this picture. In this picture, the radiator looks closer to the…[Read more]

Sandy inspired me to dig a little deeper into the axle code on my wife’s Jetfire. it is a dirty car on the bottom side but is also a very original rust free car. I decided to do a little slow cleaning on the rear end where Sandy found her code. I found it! Her 3.36 rear end has a code 23 that the inspectors guide says is correct for 62.

Doing another batch of bolts and parts for zinc plating. I found some bolts that are better then some of the ones I already had done. I am tired of bead blasting but I have to do it. I had the plater guy look at the inspection cover and he said it was clear zinc plated. I knew it had to be plated somehow for it to not have rusted. I will get it…[Read more]

I was concerned about that when I took my car apart. Luckily I was able to get it off without hurting it. It is stiffer than I think it should be but not broken. I still need to check my parts car but I feel sure it will not be any good.

Thanks, guys. I may end up adapting a 64-67 boot as best I can. I’ve never seen one that is old and in a car that isn’t shredded like the one in the picture, which isn’t surprising. Thanks again.

Here is mine, this is what they look like, but in one piece. Right now I am using the 64-67 A-body boot that kinda fits.

That is a part I have never looked for but have always wonder how hard it would be to find. If I find anything I will let you know. I need to check my 4 speed parts car but I suspect it is not going to be any good.

Hi Everyone,
I’m looking or an NOS or reproduction clutch rod firewall boot for my ’62 Jetfire 4 speed project. I know these are hard to find, but I’m hoping someone out there can help. I found an NOS one once on eBay many years ago, but haven’t seen one since. Anyone have any luck adapting one from a different car and making it work?…[Read more]

I did replace the backup light wires in the harness with an NOS set I had. I also ordered a new positive battery cable for it from Lectric Limited. I hope it matches the original correct. So far, I do not believe I have any parts that are made in China going on the car. Maybe the radiator hose will be, I have not decided if I will use the new…[Read more]
