Thanks Jim, I was afraid of that. I have a couple of two seat convertibles where there is either no or or very little of it taking place, but the ballooning and occasional flap is there even with the much smaller top.
Maybe try the exit window strategy above and see if that makes a difference. Friend has a 72 Cutlass on loan and he says he…[Read more]

Yes, there are circumstances where a convertible top will make strange noises while driving and the top is up.
I have found that if the back window is closed (zipped up) and air is allowed to enter the inside of the car, either through the pull cable vents or the heater controls, and pressure builds up inside the car. This internal pressure…[Read more] -

So use Google. It’s a better search engine anyway. In the Google search box, type [b]”oldsjetfire.com” [/b](with the quotes) and then your search topic. This searches the entire site, forum and all.

Thanks for the info. Good luck with the work.
On the coast in CA and plan to drive some with top up this winter so hoping for a solution or if necessary “ oh well- that’s the way they are.” -

I have a ’63 & I don’t recall the slap/flap phenomenon. However, I drive it 95% of the time with the top down (of course!!). The top has been replaced, but it was on the car when I got it, & will need replacement in the next 1-2 years. I don’t have access to the car right now (in the shop for a few things I just don’t have time to do right now).…[Read more]

When the website was “updated” the Search function that previously existed at the bottom of the page was deleted for some reason.
The search at the top of the page does not search post topics or keywords. Only brings up the same articles no matter what you search for.
I asked the webmaster to reinstate but never received an answer. You cou…[Read more]

The picture is too close in to get a full idea of what’s going on. Pull back and get a good focus please.
Maybe get a pic of how it is connected to the exhaust manifold too.
Can’t really tell but is the copper tube just hanging in the air up there and not connected?

Just got my new top. Robbins Stayfast/canvas top. Zip out rear window. Looks great. Nice and tight. New side cables in place. New pads, new front tack strip, new weatherstrip, old top full removed, refinished/adjusted/lubed top frame. Just had my first drive home from the top shop.
Problem is when I hit about 45+ with the drivers window down it…[Read more]

And where does the other end go? Again, NOT factory, so you’ll have to ask whoever installed it why it is there.

scott replied to the topic vacuum line on exhaust manifold in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 3 months ago
That is the tube in question. it is not the choke tube. that is the tube that goes into the pass. side exhaust manifold. the pink ribbon was used to highlight it.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to show in those photos. If they were in focus it might help. I do see a copper line in the second photo. That’s not factory. Olds NEVER used copper lines, only steel.

Just figured out the difference between the 62 and 63 fluid bottle holder. There is two different part numbers for them and both mount different. Here is a picture of the legs that allow for the 63 to mount on the curved fender verses the 62 that mounts on the flat brace.
