Yes I plan on starting a thread here Greg. I wish this forum was more user friendly and we could search topics etc
We were very busy between working on the car, posting on the Oldsmobile Jetfire face book page, my face book page, winterizing our other old cars, winterizing our homes grounds, leaves and gardens, 4 grand kids etc. We just got…[Read more]

Sandy my name is Greg. Thanks for posting those, that underside is incredible! Very clean. The cut out has lots of sharp edges like my car. Consider starting a new thread showing photos of your car. We are really starting to document these cars and how they were built. But instead of having thousands of examples to learn from, we only have a…[Read more]

Greytoad, how was the transmission tunnel cut for your 4 speed tunnel unit? Was it torch or power shears, or if you don’t know, can you post a photo of the tunnel from underneath? Mine was cut with power shears and has sharp edges. Eric’s 62 was cut with a torch.

Found that both of my backing plates for the rear brakes have a yellow dab of paint on them. Not sure what they are for other than likely some kind of inspection marker.

Got the rear end and brakes apart today. Here is a video of how I remove the bushings. After the rubber removal I just crush the shell and they almost fall out.

What do you mean by a “!/2″ crows foot” ? Not a term I am privy to in Canada!

Progress photos. I used a 1/2” crows foot with a universal joint on top of it to tighten the rear flange bolt.

He is almost done patching the rust spots. He has one more to do and then on to the next phase. After tomorrow he will not be working on the car for at least two weeks. He has 78 hours in it so far.
Now that I have the rear end back I am pulling it apart and the control arms apart to get them ready for the sand blaster.

I have the bushings for the 13/16 bar that are the correct thing and even an NOS set but the hole is to small in them to run the 15/16 bar from the 63 Jetfire. I will likely just cut the hole larger in the repop set I have and save the NOS set for the original bar when and if I decide to put it back on the car. I would rather find the correct…[Read more]

There should be something available off the shelf for you. I got a set of compliant urethane with the locating budge that fit my orig straps on my 13/16” bar. Rare Parts researched it for me.
Got those after getting a set of the only others I found that everyone sells that’s a smash into the strap style with no locating bulge.

The ones I took off of my 63 Jetfire parts car look just like the bushings for the small bar only with a bigger hole. The 1963 parts book is not even clear on these bushings. I even compared it to the 70 Cutlass style but that bushing is much bigger and will not fit the bracket. I suppose it may be easier to cut the outside of those down easier…[Read more]

Anyone know where to get the sway bar bushings for our cars and a 15/16 bar? I am starting to think I will have to bore the 13/16 bushings larger.

A while back my body guy said if he is not done by April it will be next winter before he can finish it. Well, he is working on my car full time right now so if he don’t quit on it I could see it being done by late December. I am not holding my breath either way. He said he didn’t think he would have more than 200 hours in it before he started so…[Read more]
