I think it is odd that your car is black under the hood but mine is body color (white) yet they were built in the same plant one week apart. I wonder if ‘they’ deemed that the rose color would look ‘nasty’ in the engine bay or if it was more of ‘the call’ of the guy with the paint gun. Wondering ‘when’ the…[Read more]

Have not checked that Oaklyss, but I will. I need a list of where all these numbers and marks are so I don’t scrub the marks off ……… I have never had a car that I have cared about the numbers before but this car is different. I tend to stumble across numbers: we are still cleaning etc – this one was hard to miss! Body number 732. So is this…[Read more]

Wow that is a big number. What is the letter code on the cover flange for the gear ratio? My 63 was built at Southgate also. January 4th week, body number 791. Is that close to your body number?

So we are still working on cleaning up the 63 Jetfire. Today we were cleaned up the underside and when it was dry enough so I wouldn’t get dripped on – I took some photos. Check out this huge paint code mark on the differential housing. The car was built on the 3rd week of January at the South Gate California plant.

SO my car does not have a shifter fork boot. Apparently there was a chunk of one with the clip around the narrow part but no lower section nor a clip frame for around Housing. I guess I will make one. Does anyone have photo of the frame cage that is used to clip it to the opening?

Here are some cam specs from the 2002 D&D Fabrications Parts Book. Doesn’t show the stock values for Jetfire but might help some of you.

Just got some great news. They are shipping me two of them to try out and should have them around the end of the week. If it shows up on time I will install one on my wife’s automatic car Saturday and see how it does. I will keep you posted.

It should really be put on a cam doctor to really get it right. A friend had a cam checked on a cam doctor and it was really expensive to have done. I did not look into it myself but thought about it.

If we had the stock specs for the camshaft, it could be custom ground. A degree wheel would show it, or any cam grinder can put an original cam on a machine that would give the specs.
Here is the black oxide system, works great. Takes a couple minutes. -

I just found the engine build sheet from D&D for that 4 speed car I had. No wonder it was so much more than our automatic car. For sure a more performance cam
Block decked .003
deck height .023-.026
head chambers 41-42 cc (I assume they cut them a little)
pistons Egge pistons.040
compression right at 10.0:1

Sandy, I had a distributor corroded to the front cover one time. It was so bad I ended up braking it trying to get it apart. If that is your problem then be careful.
oaklyss, I lost track of what one we put in our automatic car but it is one of the Crower cams. I got it from D&D as a kit with the lifters and timing set. His kit number is…[Read more]

What is the best camshaft to use? Crower 50227, 50228, 50229, or Elgin (Sealed Power) E364S. Which works best with the turbo?
Also I need a replacement boot for the clutch rod thru the firewall. -

Please show us some photos! The distributor is removed by taking out the hold down bolt and retainer.
I just replated several bolts using Eastwood electroplating kit. Also did several brackets and they came out great.
I will be using the cold method of black phosphate using magnesium oxide and distilled water on the motor bolts.
My inner fender…[Read more] -

I forgot to mention, The manganese phosphate is the dark gray or black looking parts. The zinc phosphate is a really light gray and is mostly used as a base for paint. The valve covers, air cleaner, and many parts were zinc phosphated originally before they painted them. I would assume that primer is just as good but I will have a few parts powder…[Read more]

I am using Manganese and also Zinc phosphate. I was making my own solutions but couldn’t get it exactly right when I was testing it last winter. I decided to purchase the solution from Anthony Owens aso9592@gmail.com and it is working great. You have to follow the directions exactly. When it says to coat the parts when you are done three time with…[Read more]

The 2020 Nationals is July 28th to August 2nd. We plan on attending this reminds me that I need to book the hotel! IF the Jetfire is done we will bring that on a trailer as it will not be proven/driven enough yet to trust it on a trip that far. If it is not, then we will likely drive the 61 Fiesta Wagon there. Anyone book their hotel yet. I…[Read more]
