Been reading your story here. I have been wondering how many 63 4 speed cars are still out there and on the road. We just purchased an original, rust free survivor 4 speed out of California that was recovered by Sierra Auto Restoration that had been in storage for 33 years: & I managed to sweet talk them into selling it to me as is. Anyway:…[Read more]

Wow, just read both of you posts: Found a 4 speed… and this Restoration one! Excellent documentation work Eric. Interested about that Manganese coating you are doing, is that from Eastwoods? Also wonder HOW you successfully removed the trunk liner: I assume yours was glued in too?

Decided to pull apart the transmission this morning. I found the slightest hint of orange paint still beside the speedometer boss. The orange paint there in 62 means 15 inch wheels and 3.36 rear gears. I checked the end play on everything and all was well within specs. With 44,000 miles I figured it would. I will reuse all the thrust washers as…[Read more]

Thanks for the great explanation! I am still trying to ‘wrap my head’ around this system. If I am driving one I should certainly understand it reasonably well. By time we get it on the road I should be a […]

Oh yeah, see that.
DVAP may have one they can pull and send you that you can use as a core.

Thanks, but that $463 center link you see is for 61/62. The 63 is a different animal.
Still looking… but if anyone has a 63 core they wanted to offer up, I would be interested. -

Hmmm. Another Jetfire unique part, like the brake line. Cool.

I was looking for my best filler plate today and found that the Cutlass does not have the arch cut out for the dual outlet exhaust. I assumed they made them all the same. If you install one from a Cutlass or put a dual outlet setup on your Cutlass you would need to cut this out. That or hang the exhaust slightly lower.

Still slowly chugging along. Mostly cleaning and phosphating parts but it gets so boring that now and then I have to stop and put an assembly of some kind together. I pulled the insulation off this hood and it has the 147 with a circle around it just like my automatic car did. I will do the same thing before I install the new hood insulation.

No, I still have the original four wheel drums. I used the Fox body disc M/C. The only difference is that the disc M/C doesn’t have a residual pressure valve in the port to the front brakes. I figured that if that became an issue, I could always just plumb an external PRV into the line. So far I haven’t seen the need for it. My lines are all stock…[Read more]

Joe you running discs? I have ss flex lines front and rear and pedal is still low. I am running discs up front which does take more fluid=more piston travel. Put self adjuster system on rear and they are working well too. But I live in the twisty Santa Cruz Mtns and the brakes work great low pedal and all.

I guess you talked to them but they show a new one with all “internal components” for ,gulp, $463 retail. If you can buy as a shop you can probably save 25-30% off that. Or is it you only want a rebuild core exchange?
