jensenracing77 replied to the topic Driveshaft weak link in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 8 months ago
Had my 4 peed car on the lift taking things apart and noticed that the drive shaft in this car is not the same as any of the others. The front section is the same as my other 4 speed front section. This back section is the smaller diameter but this one was not made with the rubber damper layer like the small diameter Cutlass one. This drive shaft…[Read more]

I know two emails were sent to Rick. I have not heard anything back. The email I have is from a long time ago so not sure it is what he still uses. I believe Jim emailed him also.

Very good article on gauges and probes in MAD Electrical. Go to MAD Electrical site, “Work Shop “ Tips tab to the right on top and see “Water temp gauge accuracy”. This is a great resource for electrical stuff.
I had two probes for my elec gauge, Stewart Warner, one in car and one new in box in on shelf. I plugged the new one into the factory…[Read more]

Check the 6163.Skylark forum for an extended thread on the conversion. Both Scarebird and BCCP conversions are covered. Several of those guys are using a Rambler manual mc I believe. Cheap and small for Manual brakes, drum/drum but they like it for the disc/drum. BCCP will sell you one of their new alum mcs which is small, manual, and expensive.…[Read more]

Looks like my extra NOS ball joint is a 1961 upper ball joint. Part number 5675725. Looks like I can’t help. Sorry

Looks kind of expensive to me but if that is all you can find then maybe not. I have one extra NOS screw in ball joint at home but not sure if it is a upper or lower. If it is what you need I would let it go for $80. I will look tonight and see what one it is.

I will get some pictures in a couple days. I can’t work on it tomorrow I don’t think. It is best to take the back seat out and door panels off to get them off. Some are hard to reach but you van get to the back side and squeeze them with small pliers and push them out. I was able to slide a couple of the quarter trim off and leave the clips then…[Read more]

Eric can you show what the clips look like and how they attach in the area by the wheel well?

Started removing the side trim tonight. Nearly all the clips are still good. I think there are around 6 so far that I will have to replace so far. I will wait to pull the front fender trim till after I remove the fenders.

Correct. The thread-in ball joints have a hex.

Matt replied to the topic Lower Ball Joint in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 8 months ago
Thanks for the responses.I am guessing the thread in has a large hex on it and the press in doesn’t? The car has 54,000 original miles on it and all other joints appear tight.

I just rebuilt the front end on my 62 before Power Tour. I used a Kanter complete kit. Mine are screw in ball joints. I did have a problem with one of the ball joints being machined undersized. Kanter resolved the issue and sent me two new ones within two days. Great customer service. I provided pictures of the issue in this…[Read more]

There are two styles of ball joints, press in and thread in. You need to make sure you get the right type. Rare Parts in stockton CA makes good stuff with a stock and sometimes an upgraded part called their Diamond Series-if you can buy at jobber rate good prices, Fusick olds has them I think, Kanter Bro but probably pricey, there are others as…[Read more]

I have no experience changing them yet but I got NOS ones from eBay. What year is your car? I believe Oldsmobile made a couple changes to them between 61-63. I also believe 63 is a half year where they used two different ones in one year.
