Well, I added several pieces to what I am getting re-chromed and decided to take them to the guy that done the chrome work on my W-30. I was happy with the quality of his work but not sure I really trust the guy. His price is much better than the other places. I usually believe in you get what you pay for but I simply can’t do $6000 for what I…[Read more]

Here is a 63 Jetfire that would take some work but looks restorable. He said he has $1800 in it and I believe that is what he would take for it. He said he has the engine and transmission but I don’t have pictures of them yet. I am guessing the turbo stuff is gone but not sure of they yet either. I can get you in touch with him if you are…[Read more]

Got my first estimate for re-chroming these 6 parts and the two bumpers. $5000 to $6000. I completely understand that chrome is a labor intensive process and quality cost money but I did not expect that for what I have. I was guessing around $3000

62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic Sensor location for gauge? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 8 months ago
Sure, I get that. My concern is that I seem to be measuring it at a spot considerable lower than the factory location. I have been checking ends other than the 215 and some measure in same spot, direct outflow from a head and some measure in n accumulation point behind the thermostat as in where I m set up.
I did just have a breakthrough of…[Read more]

Pulled the back seat out and this is the 1962 version of the broadcast card. The 3147 is Jetfire, 971 is silver interior, 384 is 4 speed manual transmission and 1997 is the body number on the cowl tag. The 3-23-27-1 I am not sure what this is, I will have to spend some time and see if I can figure it out. I am not going to remove this tag. It will…[Read more]

The coolant in the engine is not all one temperature. It is expected that temps will vary depending on where you measure them.

So I put a gauge sensor in the factory location and wow, a 20 to 30 degree difference from my location behind the thermostat. Factory location higher. I already compared the two sensors and they perform the same. Same gauge, I just changed the sensor signal wire back and forth between the two sensors. Now I don’t know what to think!

BTW my sensor has the probe fully in the coolant flow pretty much directly above where the coolant returns from each bank and enters the manifold center cavity behind the thermostat.

Are you guys using elect or mechanical/capillary tube gauges? I’m running a Stewart Warner Deluxe type electric gauge, 100-280 range.

Great info.
So what I did was build up the small boss in front of the carb/behind the thermostat and drill and tap it to drop a sensor in at that location. Seemed like a good spot and I could keep the factory light sensor in orig location. So I am running at about 185 while cruising and hitting 205 when on a long uphill grade, hotter than I…[Read more] -

What Eric said. The sending unit for a temp gauge must be in flowing coolant, and there is only one such location on the stock intake. You can get an aftermarket part that fits in the upper radiator hose and has an NPT port for a sender, but that is a little less accurate location.

I think the only place you can put the sender is on the front of the intake manifold pointing forward. You will have to take out the original and leave it out to use the aftermarket one.
Our automatic car on a hot day in stop and go will get to 210. I don’t really like it but that is how that one is. My 4 speed car I can’t get to over 190 no…[Read more]

Those of you who have fitted gauges, where did you locate the sending unit?
And what temp do you run in warm weather cruising at 60 on a level road and when pulling a long hill?
Thanks.

Disassembley has officially began. After a long delay, my body guy has his shop up and running again. Today I started out taking lots of close detailed pictures of all the trim and the alignment of the trim and bumpers. Also got more pictures of door, hood, fender and trunk gaps. I still have the automatic car for more reference but still want…[Read more]
