Greg Oakley replied to the topic Rubber Foot Flange Gasket Needed!! in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 9 months ago
Ken, is there a crack in the middle between the flanges? That’s where they usually crack. As we all know, never use silicone sealant where gas is in contact with it because gasoline dissolves silicon sealant.
There is a sealant called “Motoseal” that is like silicon and works great on these gaskets, even if they are cracked. Just coat the entir…[Read more] -

Wanted: rubber foot flange gasket needed!
After driving my car for about 2000 miles it started stalling all the time! Choke on or off move the idle up no improvement! After checking everything twice there is a huge vacuum leak at the foot flange. I have one that may work but need to find the best I can. We all know its 8 hours of work to change…[Read more]

I have not noticed the line up of these holes before? Don’t know what they were designed for. Would make a good secret lock out for an anti-theft system…ha!.

In this first picture I marked 3 holes with a marker. I never noticed it till now but all three line up perfectly with the throttle part way open. One hole is in the throttle body and the other two are on the back side throttle bracket. I looked in the 62 and 63 service manuals and see nothing to reference this. I am sure Oldsmobile done this for…[Read more]

I’m rebuilding the front end on my 62 wagon in preparation for Power Tour and Homecoming. Bought the complete kit from Kanter. The driver’s side went together with no issues. I went to install the passenger side spindle and couldn’t get the lower ball joint to torque up. I finally realized that the ball joint stud was sticking up too far in the…[Read more]

I bought my 215 as a box of parts, and am finally assembling it. Just discovered that the 7/16” head bolts are too big to go thru the posts that support the rocker shafts. Did some of these engines use 3/8” head bolts? Are there rocker shafts that are drilled for the larger head bolts? John

I finally determined that the thread size is 11/32-24. I decided to just go ahead and buy a set of ARP rod bolts, and that is the size that I got. Thanks to all who responded. John

joe_padavano replied to the topic Idler arm in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 9 months ago
Yes, the threads that the idler arm pivots on wear out prematurely, allowing the arm itself to slop up and down. It’s apparently the threads on the bracket, as I put a new bushing on the threads of a used bracket and there was still slop. This slop is not present when both parts are new.

62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic Larger front sway bar? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 9 months ago
I think you’ll find it stiff enough for the street with just the addition of the rear. A sway bar does also firm up the ride. Especially over certain road surfaces.

Do you have a Rover eng? I guess those would be metric.
Should be able to determine thread type and size at somewhere that sells American and metric hardware. Home Depot, Lowe’s, a good auto parts store. -

They are 3/8 SAE threads I believe. That is standard fine thread. Is this a Jetfire engine or a Cutlass/f-85 engine? I have some extra Jetfire rod bolts but they are different than the other 215 engines.

Can someone tell me what the thread size is on the connecting rod bolts? It appears as though it is a metric thread. Also, I need to purchase a couple of such bolts. Any ideas as to where to purchase? Thanks, John

Are you talking about the threaded joint where they go together is wearing out or the ball on the end? I have had several of these cars now and not one of them has had any loose steering parts. Not sure if I am just lucky or what. I should have a good used original if you want it.
