OK, what am I doing wrong with the idler arm on my 62 wagon? In the nine years I’ve owned this car, I’ve driven it about 10,000 miles and in that time I think I’ve replaced the idler arm three times. In the course of rebuilding the front end in preparation for taking this car on PowerTour and on to Homecoming, I just found out that the idler is…[Read more]

joe_padavano replied to the topic Larger front sway bar? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 10 months ago
I’ll second the installation of a rear bar first. Enlarging the front bar just makes understeer worse. The back bar makes handling more neutral.

Did you install the rear sway bar?
Don’t know of a bigger front but the rear made a substantial improvement. Car doesn’t lean much at all. -

Has anyone found a larger front sway bar for our cars? Some thing from another GM model?

New update! Installed the correct 10″ flywheel, clutch assy, and super T10. The stock t10 had a 2:56 first gear and was hard to get it moving with slipping the clutch. The new trans has a 3:42 first gear. That makes a big difference!! Next install the new replated rear bumper. Still more to do!!

I just pulled a driveshaft from a 62 Cutlass for comparison. Ken and Jim were correct about the Cutlass having a smaller driveshaft. The back section between the 63 4 speed Jetfire and 62 automatic Jetfire driveshafts are the same. The front section between the Cutlass automatic and the Jetfire automatic are the same. The Cutlass back section is…[Read more]

I am assembling a 215 Olds V8 that has been bored 0.020″ over. I have a set of rings for the build, but one of the eight packages got very wet, and the rings are marginal, at best. I would like to buy a complete set of rings for that one piston, if anyone can help. Please call John at (260) 277-0763 if you have a set or know where I can find…[Read more]

I agree with Eric. I have found that I get the best coolant performance when using an original GM (made by Dole Valve Co.) thermostat with a 168 degree rating. Originals can be found in junk yards and checked with a pot of water on a heating source and a good thermometer to check its opening temperature.

I have not heard of a drive shaft breaking apart. I have heard of the vibration problem from the shaft when the constant velocity (CV) joint goes bad. I have also experienced this myself! Attached the GM service guild article.
When the drive shaft is out of the car and on the floor, a good CV joint will not allow the shaft to lay straight, it will…[Read more] -
