I was running the 160 also but started getting the original style and using them. Here is a 170 original style on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1961-1963-Olds-F85-Buick-Special-Pontiac-Tempest-170-Deg-Thermostat-NOS-1199784/333123727787?fits=Year%3A1962%7CModel%3AF85&epid=672772359&hash=item4d8fb8b1ab:g:cFUAAOSwIz5cgvb4

I use a 160 degree high flow Robert Shaw style right now. Depending on how it runs in the summer I may switch to a 180. D&D and Evans recommend the 160.
The Robert Shaw style has something like 20% more flow when open than a standard thermostat like a Start.

Make sure the u-joint’s are phased properly. I know that’s necessary but couldn’t explain.
Someone here maybe or a driveshaft shop can explain.
It needs to be balanced anyway at a shop.
They can tell you if the shafts still good too.Replace your center bearing. The one you can buy new is too loose so it needs to be shimmed tight in the…[Read more]

Thanks, I do remember that thread but I thought someone had said before that it would actually break or snap in half. Maybe I misunderstood what I read, it was several years ago. I have two sets of the slip shaft with the ball and socket and even the spring NOS. If this is the only problem, I am covered. My driveshaft is pitted really deep so I…[Read more]

The weak link is the center cardon joint-an early CV joint arrangement with 2 u-joints and a spring loaded centering ball and socket. If that centering ball and socket are worn/broken you cannot get the vibration out of the driveshaft.
The quick check is that if the joint snaps over center it’s “good” for now. If it just flops around it’s not…[Read more]

Haven’t used it in a while and I have switched to an Apple comp but I don’t see the search field at the very bottom of the page?
The Search at the top doesn’t seem to perform the same function.

Somewhere in the past I have read that the Jetfire driveshafts would break easy. Is this something anyone knows about? What is the weak link on them? Is there am upgrade that should be done?

There are 5 confirmed cars that are for sure going to be there with 4 more maybes. Please bring your Jetfire if you can. I wish I had the means to get another guy there from here in Indiana. He is the original owner to his car but said he was not up for a drive that far any more.

I am going to have to eat my words. I forgot that I sold them on eBay. Fusick has an NOS one listed on eBay now at the same price I got out of mine.

4 speed Jetfire distributor. Selling as a core needing rebuilt because I have never used it but it spins free. Does have a little corrosion on the points lobe of the shaft. It would likely be just fine after you cleaned off the lobs and run it as is. $100 and shipping

Here is the block and heads. I also have the crank but no rods or pistons. I would let them go for $350 but you would need to arrange the shipping or pick up. I could bring them to the Homecoming show if someone wanted them and going there. Sold as unknown condition and as a core needing rebuilt. I would think the block would need bored, has a…[Read more]
