jensenracing77 replied to the topic I've '62 Jetfire and need an estimate of value. in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 3 years, 6 months ago
As much as I hate to say it, if it is to the point of needing floors it is only a parts car. There are no body parts available for these cars and if the floors are gone then it will have rust elsewhere. I pick up parts cars for between $800 and $2000 depending on what parts and options are left that are usable.

The passenger side glass is done and the back driver side glass is done. I will get back tot he driver door glass at a later time. I have moved on to the engine because I needed to get some of it cleaned up before cold weather comes. For a year I have been back and forth on if I wanted to do a full rebuild on the engine. I have decided to leave…[Read more]

jensenracing77 replied to the topic Steele Rubber vent window seals in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 3 years, 6 months ago
I never did get back to the driver side. I have been putting it off and dreading going back to it. It has the correct part number molded into the rubber so I think I got the correct one. I used an NOS rubber on the passenger side and fit perfect and seals great. I have had 5 or 6 people now say that the Steele Rubber part fit theirs great so I…[Read more]

jensenracing77 replied to the topic 62 hood grease pencil marking in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 3 years, 6 months ago
Just found this 21 marking in grease pencil on the front of the block just below the driver side head. In the 62 inspection book I found engine code 21 is for the manual transmission low compression engine so I assume this is not the engine code. I am guessing it is just some random inspection number that is not in the book. According to it, this…[Read more]

Has anyone used them? I started to replace mine and the new ones are not even close to correct. I have roughly a 1/8 inch gap between the vent window and the new rubber seal. I would have to bend things to get the front side to seal but if I do that then the rear is not going to seal. I checked the part number and I have the correct part. Not sure…[Read more]

People think that I am crazy on this one but I am reusing the original weatherstripping, fuzzy’s, and rubber door sweeps. The weatherstripping is not mint but it is still very nice, the fuzzy’s and rubber sweeps are nearly mint. I can always replace it later if I need to but this original stuff is still nice and pliable. I washed it with dish soap…[Read more]

Thanks. I enjoy building them maybe more than driving them. This car has been more of a challenge to me. I know the 70-72 model really well but had to learn a lot about these cars as I go. Also glad I have so many parts cars to research things.
I finished the dash today. The glove box is the original and was nearly mint. All I have to do is hook…[Read more]

For anyone needing the information, here is a list of bearings and races needed to rebuild the rear end. I went to an industrial supply company and got quality USA made bearings. Some of these are available from Auto Zone in a China brand but I spent the extra money on quality brands. Watch out for the LM603015, Those are very expensive. After I…[Read more]

I finished my last two inspection stamps today. They are not even close to as nice as the originals but they will have to do because I am not very good at it. I could make them better but I would have to get a different style stamper and use yellow ink instead of paint. These are good enough for me. I guess I have seen some really poor stampings…[Read more]

I finished the front suspension and installed it in the car for temporary so that I can roll the car around. I will have the rear end done in the next week or two and install it permanent. I need to roll this to the other side of the garage so that I can work on it better. I have pulled off of this car longer than I planned and starting to get…[Read more]

Very nice! This is something I will have to do. I had one original cap but it was rusted really bad and not really saveable. I ended up letting it go with my last 63 I sold because it was original to that car and the guy asked for it.

jensenracing77 replied to the topic Fuel Pump Repair Kit in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 3 years, 9 months ago
You are partly right. Not so much to prevent surge but to keep a continues forward motion of the fuel. I think this was on all cars with a return line in 62 and 63 but it could have been Jetfire only. I believe A/C cars would have had them but maybe not. It is called a fuel dome and needs to be pointed up so it don’t fill with fuel. On a normal…[Read more]

I found on a couple pumps that the diaphragm is all that went bad and the diaphragms are the same in many of these pumps. An entire kit is always nice though.
