Latest update : after installing a 4 speed Tranny and it working smoothly, I also swapped out the old Rochester Carb for a MSD Fuel Injected Carburetor – starts right up without pumping the gas pedal every time – I no longer deal with rough starting after the engine has been warmed due to fuel evaporation in the float chamber……..F.I. Carb is…[Read more]

Again, I did not to go with the TH200 instead, I went with the 700R4 (1990 or older) worked great and again the amount of firewall fab work was minimal.

I opted not to go with the TH200 as per Marks recommendation and history of reliability when it comes to the TH200. The 700R4 (1990 or older) worked great and again the amount of firewall fab work was minimal. Ill forward photos when I get the car back from the stereo shop. If your wavering to the TH200, I would recommend to speak with Mark at D&D…[Read more]

My tranny is smooth as butter!! I started this project in the spring and its running great. After lengthy convers’s with Mark at D&D, I went with the 1990 700R4 – I found it to be a better choice because with the 60 degree offset matched perfectly-ish with D&D’s bell housing adapter.
Fabrication and sheet metal modification resulted in having…[Read more]

My plan is to swap out the Roto-5 for a 2004R and make the appropriate cutting/fabbing to allow my factory console and automatic shifter to be used. Im ordering iot through Monster getting a full conversion kit that includes an exterior intercooler, which i was contemplating doing since I have hopes to tow our 1961 Shasta trailerI realize that a…[Read more]

Ok…understood; I’ll still need the D&D adapter. Im intrigued by your research that led you to use the 200C 3-speed for its smaller dimension as compared to the 2004R. If the 2004R didn’t require extensive fabbing/cutting would you have considered the 4R over the C? I just think by adding a 4 speed will really make this car drive smoothly with…[Read more]

So the universal bell housing that apparently comes with multiple bolt patterns will NOT fit the 215?

I’ve never done this scope of a project but I opted for a 4-speed because I thought I could get better fuel economy. Monster builds theirs with generic bell housing thats supposed to bolt on to all sorts of engines to include standard BOP bolt patterns, so Ill not need the bell housing adapter from D&D (saving me extra cutting/fabbing to…[Read more]

I think you solved much of our dilemmas…..glad to hear it!!!!! I am planning on doing the same swap this winter and appreciate all the info you shared. I am looking at the 200R 4 speed at Monster. Can you advise what updates I should have them build into my 200R – Im not worried about the 2 piece DS since Ill have that cut or have a new one…[Read more]

One of the reasons Im choice’d with a 200CR or a late model 700 is because the bell-housing adaptor offered by D&D Fabricators up in Michigan can only accommodate these 2 tranny’s. I hesitated with the 700 because of its size,; Im trying to limit the amount of sheet metal/tunnel removal and fabrication and felt the engine is under torqued to…[Read more]

Thanks… I feel pretty good about having it restored professionally. They mentioned the very same concerns about flash rust, so I’d rather have them do it having over 30 years of experience. I’d hate to spend the time, money and effort to do it myself only to have missed a spot and have to redo it. They also send out the sending unit, if needed,…[Read more]

I looked into that option too, but no such luck. Even if I did, as you say the filler neck may need relocation; I’d rather stick with my original tank.

Any rec on restoring my gas tank? Since I don’t have a chance of finding a new tank, there’s a guy from Greensburg PA who blasts, cleans, preps and applies a rubber base appliqué to the interior and exterior. He provides a life time warranty as well……….has anyone tried a similar process or have any other recommendations.
