Started cleaning the wire harnesses today. They cleaned up really well and nearly all the terminals had no corrosion. The very few that did, I pulled them apart to clean better. The engine side I think I will re tape. I don’t have any of the correct tape so I have that ordered.

I bought another rebuilt starter and looked inside it. It has the helper spring behind the Bendix drive that Both my starters were missing. Installed the new starter and motor fired right up. Both starters worked fine before the rebuild. I can only think the extra compression with the rebuild was just enough to overcome the starters. Now to break…[Read more]

It is great this forum exists. place to post questions and find things out. Not sure if it could get updated so there is a search function. So grateful this is here.
I still have not figured out how to post to the ‘articles’ spot although I suppose I could include that in a forum post but when ‘telling a story’ I tend to ‘talk too much’ but…[Read more] -

Something don’t add up? If you done nothing to the starter other than remove it and put it back on and then had a problem… The backed it up with another starter doing the same thing, Makes me think something else went wrong. Not sure what else that could be? I assume the engine turns ok with a socket on the crank?
I was thinking about you…[Read more]

I have checked everything and can’t figure out why my starter is jamming on the flywheel. I have 2 starters and they both do it. New Bendix drive didn’t matter. Ring gear looks good. It’s like the starter is too close to the flywheel. I have tried shims to change the angle and depths but still no change. I ground out the starter head to be able…[Read more]

You need a controller to provide 12volts to the 200c in order for the lockup to engage. I haven’t looked back in this post but I think we discussed the B&M adjustable lock up controller that integrates with your stop light switch, or you can just use a manual switch to provide power.
I believe the 200r4 is the same, someone can confirm.
The 2…[Read more]

This is a poor quality picture of a picture. Helen Earley had passed a couple of these out back in the day and I can’t find anyone that still has one. I have also seen one in a printed publication before but can’t figure out what publication it was. Sadly, Oldsmobile printed this with the negative reversed. If you have an original, let me know. I…[Read more]

“It has all to do with stopping power. If manual brakes are so great then why does the D.O.T. require power brakes, and now antilock brakes.. Again its making old cars better than new.”
You apparently still don’t understand how brakes work. If the pressure at the wheel cylinders is the same, what difference does it make if there is a power…[Read more]

“Why keep manual brakes….. The whole point to convert to disc is power disc brakes… A hell of alot better stopping power. Its all about making old cars better than new.”
Uh, no. The brakes at the wheels neither know nor care if there is a power booster. All they know is the hydraulic line pressure. You don’t need a power booster to make suf…[Read more]

I mentioned in a previous post abouta shop in CA. The guy was pushing a C-4 on me with a ford driveshaft.. I talked to him about the 200c, and he said that the 200c uses a computer… I know the 200R4 does. Anyway then he was pushing a 289 motor. I think he got clueless when I told him what I had. Just an FYI.

Anyone ever reach out to Gene with transmissions by Gene? I was inquiring about a trans swap. He started pushing a C-4 trans on me along with a new drive line. Now I do know that the C-4s and C-6s were alot stronger than any of the GMs. So just an FYI….You may want to steer clear if your in SO-CAL.
