does it make the noise with a load on the engine? like putting it in drive while on the brake, maybe rev it a bit. have you driven it at all? if so is it a constant noise?

that actually sounds very familiar. my 359n olds made a similar noise but it was whenever the engine was running. i wanna say i had a noise like that on one of my 62 cutlass but can remember for sure, seems like i remember an intermitant chirp/squeek. you checkes the rod bearings and main bearings correct?

Did you have to mod the tranny tunnel for the 200r4? And did you keep the 215?

when my cutlass project was supposed to be a street car i had originaly narrowed my 8.5 about 10 inches. the upper mounting point was higher on the new rear end vs old so i had to raise the mounting point on the frame. it all worked but the project evolved and is now back halved and the rear end was narrowed about another 4″ for a wider wheel

i would only use the 8.5 in something with an engine swap, i have one in my 62 back halved 455 cutlass. its way more rear end than these cars need and will need to be narrowed. a 7.5 will be plenty strong for the probably all of us running 215’s and s10 rear ends may not need to be narrowed at all which will keep cost down. i could do an 8.5 for…[Read more]

did you pull the rod and main caps and inspect the bearings? i trcrmtly had a 350 olds start making that noise out of nowhere, pulled the engine down and z rod bearing was worn, spun and the crank was toast

also vurious as to what would be more popular, retaining for lug or going to five lug. also disk vs drums, obviously if you dont convert to front disk you will be wanting to have a drum rear. voice your opinions and let me know what you would like to see in a rear end swap.

im wanting to gauge interest in a possible rear end swap for our cars. idk what rear end it will be but im thinking of offering a weld on kit where you get the rear end you want and the kit will come with brackets that you weld on the rear end and control arms to bolt in factory locations on car. alternatively If i can find a rear end thats easy…[Read more]

if your having shifting problems you probably need to adjust your t.v., the rod connected to the carb that goes to the trans. it has to be in the right spot to get it to shift right, i went through this on mine. I just started adjusting it a few turns and driving enough for it to shift then repeat until got it right.

if you have a good bearings, and a good running motor that you take care of it would only need oil changes and tune ups just like any other engine. I dont like the automatics that came in these but if it was a manual, or you would swap to manual, i think that would be very livable as a daily. i daily drove a 62 and only thing i didnt like was the…[Read more]

i dont think anyone here has done a sbc swap, we like the 215 and sbc bolt right in a nova. youll need to cut the trans hump to fit the th350 and either make a crossmember, you may be able to relocate yours. mounting the engine is all up to you

young_olds replied to the topic Cutlass Manual Steering in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years, 4 months ago
i doubt there are any boxes made for them. I had a 62 with manual steering and it steered perfectly fine for me even at a stop or low speed. i daily drove a 62 nova with manual steering for a while and actually like manual so i may be biased.
