Sorry, I did not include a ‘post pressure wash’ photo in last post as stated.
Results of the pressure washing and brushing, I have since hand wiped the underside of the car. Seriously as ‘rust free of a car’ you could ever hope to find!
All the F85’s bodies were built as automatics. If it was a 4 speed order they cut a hole in the transmi…[Read more] -

The final step before preparing to paint the engine bay & front end was the final underneath clean. We set the car upon the hoist with a ‘giant diaper’ of tarps so we could keep the dirty water flowing out the door of the shop. Steve first sprayed it with degreaser then pressure washed. I manned the floor squeegee and Haz-Mat Man got real dirty!…[Read more]

The engine bay was absolutely caked with oil, grease and grime. The engine had a number of oil leaks but on the bright side where was no rust!
It was quite a few days of scraping to get all the heavy crud off the engine bay area. Meanwhile and Steve had removed the heater box and bundled and bagged the wiring harness. Then Steve’s alter ego:…[Read more]

Thanks for the feedback Ken. I kind of decided to not spend any more ‘unnecessary’ money until I have this car on the road….but now I know it works fine, there is no point in letting my Summit bucks expire! We were certainly pleased with the rear Aadco sway bar we put on the 65 Riviera! Any pictures you have of the install will be appreciated!

Car looks awesome Eric! So this is a different red or is it just the lighting on Melissa’s car?

OOPs, clicked the wrong button.
I meant to add a caption on those photos. I was looking for photos to post and when I saw that tranny photo I did not even recognize what it was until I sat the photo in full size. The greasiest transmission I ever laid my hands on.[blockquote]BBCode you used is not allowed.[/blockquote]

After pressure washing everything well and taking a bunch of photos – tear-down begins!
We started by removing the hood then carefully removing the turbo unit and its associated pieces and setting them aside. Then we dropped the transmission as we do not have the auxiliary lifts required to drop the front clip. We removed the heater box, rad,…[Read more] -

These are the first photos I got from under the car with some of the dirt and most of the spider egg sacs knocked off. We have a rolling pressure wand with multiple heads we rolled back in forth under the car.
When looking for a car to resurrect: This car is as rust free, ‘complete’ and unmolested as you could ever dream of finding! Nothing lik…[Read more] -

The interior is in remarkable condition. The drivers seat bottom was one of the few things that needed attention and fortunately for me – the one thing the Coles had sorted! They acquired an original used 63 back seat cover in ‘as new’ condition and had their upholstery guy use that to refit to the front seat bottoms!

I need to apologize that I stopped with my story and restoration. Having been in Florida for the winter kind of keeps you occupied elsewhere. Recently we got back from Florida and started tinkering with things TRF filter stencil, trim restoration as you know.
Suffice to say we got the car home safely, no trouble at the border – Exporting from…[Read more]

Oaklyss, thanks for the info on the F85 logo too as that has ‘no’ red left in and it is coming off next!. As for the trunk letters, do yours seem good and solid still or did you add a bit of ‘something’ to ensure they don’t fall off now?

I had a 57 Olds Fiesta wagon which I purchased from a guy in Toronto Ontario. The car was original except for the roof had been re-painted. He had loaned it out a number of times for commercials & movies back in the 80’s and some European candy company rented it and there were fashion models who stood on the roof in stiletto heals and put little…[Read more]

Hey ’63’ owners. So I taken off my side emblems to clean everything up there was so much gunk around there. Anyhow lots of scrubbing, cleaning, polishing. Now that the goop and wax is all out of there, and upon closer look there appears to have been Red on the outside of that turbine. Does any of yours actually have red in them? What was left…[Read more]

I thought I better post this here as the Classified section is slow to upload.
Recreate your own Factory style Turbo Rocket Fluid filter. You need to watch E-bay or other NOS parts sellers and purchase new-old stock AC model GF-61 filters; same as the GF-91 with 5/16 fuel lines ~ only without the TRF wording. Also useable are the GF-61-P filter…[Read more]

Thanks Oaklyss, anything that makes these Turbo cars different needs to be recreated. I just used a bright red and if you hold the filters 2 feet apart it looks correct but I think Testors Competition Orange ‘may be’ the absolute correct.
I am also working on the red button for the TRF tank cap too. Anyway I submitted an ‘ad’ for the stencil in…[Read more] -

My car came with an original GF-91 TRF Filter on it and since we can not buy these any more I have been working towards recreating the TRF filter identical the factory equipped unit (none the less, Eric managed to score an NOS GF-91 one recently) So I decided since we can purchase the correct ‘style’ filter on e-bay, I needed to come up with a…[Read more]

I have been having a tough time finding the right orange. The GF-61 NOS filters are printed in red but these are and orange. Being I can not go to my local hobby store to try colors I will likely take a chance on the internet. We used to have a car painted Competition Orange that looked Red beside an Orange car and looked Orange beside a Red…[Read more]

The blow out took the tail of the fender and rolled it up into the wheel well. Btw the car even came with a ‘California snow tire’ Judy told me they never had salt on the roads in the mountains back then, just in the city but they did get the occasional snowfall and when it did no one went out when it snowed.
