Our trip to California was great. We arrived late Saturday night and due to the fact that we were paying for the car with a certified check we could not finalize the deal until the bank opened Monday. We had a chance to see the car but not on a hoist as their shop was full of vehicles that needed to be rolled outside so that was put off until…[Read more]

Yes, no doubt ‘close enough’ was often the way. I say make it the way yours was as that was ‘correct’ for your car! However I would NOT make it crooked as that would drive just about anyone nuts – no need to be OCD for that!
However having said all that, I have been ‘spending some quality time’ with my assembly manual and the moment I saw your…[Read more] -

Diamond Back does not make tires. They take name brand black wall tires and customize them for you. You are still limited to what is available in specific sizes: as we know not all brands come in all sizes and they deal with many major brands. They actually use a vinyl product and the black rubber can not bleed thru like the old white walls did…[Read more]

Jim Noel: I see what you are saying now about that. I am in Florida and the car is in Ontario Canada. I have no idea why that sire is there. I am guessing by your experience that an extra wire should not be there at all?

I would love to see a photo of the 62 VS 63 washer fluid tank side by side.
Someone, somewhere told me before that my tank was incorrect (maybe Eric) but my tank looks ‘just fine’ to me.
Just wondering if the mounting holes were the same from 62 to 63: if they were actually different then I would know if mine possibly came equipped with a 62…[Read more] -

This is my 63 before anyone touched it (photo taken by Coles) – however no idea if the tank had ever been serviced previously. Also keep in mind that a plant employee ‘having worked the assembly line for a many years’ may have continued to run a wire ‘the way they always had’ even if there was a suggested change. So now I will need to decide if…[Read more]

the problem with the rad core is that the lines will all be semi blocked. These cars have a tendency to run hot. You need all the advantages you can get to keep it cool in slower traffic where natural ‘forward movement’ air flow is not there. Get the core done!
Don’t know about the hood liner: post what you find out please!!! -

The manual choke was a factory installed item on the 4 speed manual shift cars.
The car was built in the third week of January 1963 at the South Gate California plant and sold by Davis Motors in Sonora California on July 17, 1963 to Salvadore and Madelaine Mier of Tuolumne California. The Cole’s rescued the car from the drive in shed on their…[Read more]

Being that I am from that era (I was a little kid in 63) . . . Yes, it was very commonly done for two reasons. Mostly for folks who lived on dirt roads to help protect the rad from possible punctures from rocks kicked up by passing cars. People also did this to help keep bugs from getting imbedded in the rad fins which are hard to get out – a…[Read more]

I intend to remove the emblems to clean things up properly. Thanks for the heads up on the sealer Eric.
So, to continue with my story: Imagine my surprise – less than 2 months following our ‘discovering’ the existence of the Jetfires and thinking I would love to ‘someday’ be lucky enough to find one – one pops up on an Oldsmobile Buy & Sell…[Read more]

I see that it chose my first photo as the ‘cover photo’. I would just like to say that the photo was taken the day after we got it home, the car got a quick wash, no detailing: just to knock the road grime off it. Note the very spotty bumper and grime caked in the Jetfire logo etc. Far from a ‘cover girl’ photo…..lol. BTW: that grime is…[Read more]
