There’s some confusion in these posts.
For 1962 and 63, Olds offered the F85, F85 Deluxe, Cutlass, and Jetfire in the Y-body line and the Dynamic 88, Super 88, and Starfire in the B-body line.
For 1964, Olds offered the F85, F85 Deluxe, Cutlass, and 442 in the A-body line and the Jetstar 88, Dynamic 88, Super 88, Jetstar I, and Starfire in the…[Read more]

631 is also for Jetfire. 636 is Starfire full size car. Later, Olds made a Jetstar and Jetstar II.
So Jet, Star, Fire, we’re all used in different orders at one time or another.
The engine in later F85s and Cutlass was called Jetfire on the air cleaner just to confuse things more. -

All Jetfires came from the factory with a turbo. Many were replaced with a 4bbl setup when problems arose.

The VIN is 631, which says it’s an F-85 Deluxe. Apparently the Jetfire VIN should be 636?

Looking to change over from the manual box to power steering. Looks pretty straight forward except for the steering column shaft.
Information on the Steering column shaft is the part I am unsure of at this point.
My manual column does NOT have a rag joint. It has a can like connector between the steering column shaft and the box input shaft that…[Read more] -

Hello everyone. I was wondering if ALL the ’63 F-85 Jetfires were equipped with the turbo setup, or was a non-turbo version available? I’ve heard that some owners were unhappy with the turbo performance (!) and had them removed.
Thank you! -

jensenracing77 replied to the topic Jetfire valve sizes in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 3 years, 12 months ago
They are the same size but the Jetfire used an aluminized coated valve and the f-85 and Cutlass did not. If you are replacing the valves it don’t matter because most all the new valves are superior to the Jetfire or f-85 valves.

I am wondering if the Jetfire engine used the same valves as the two and four barrel versions.

If you use cork use the impregnated cork material. Did one like that, Sealed to sending unit with Permatex aircraft sealer with nothing to the tank.so I can pull it on and off tank when needed. Works well.
You could use HighTack to the tank, it would be removable.Pure cork will leak.
Don’t use silicone gasket maker, it’s not appropriate for…[Read more]

Gas gauge works fine so I think sending unit is fine, but probably should get new gasketPoking around for past articles/sources for that gasket without a lot of luck
Kanter may have a sending unit that “should” come with a gasket.Any experience…[Read more]

macf85 replied to the topic Auto to 4 speed conversion in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 4 years ago
All parts needed to convert to 4-speed are specific to the 1962-1963 F-85 series of cars. The 1961 F-85 series was available with a 3 speed manual transmission or automatic. No 4 speeds in 1961. The factory 4-speed is a Borg-Warner T-10. It would be best if you could find an original 4-speed car that still has all the parts (good luck with…[Read more]
