Received my new Viton diaphragm valve and have installed. Hope this is the last one!
The also pulled off the end of the valve tube and replaced the stem seal in there. I don’t believe Old Air went that far.
Terrance at Fusick as very helpful.
Thanks for all the comments.

Hi,
The problem is not rebuilding the valve or getting the diaphragm, please read up to the earlier posts for the issue.
Also, I understand there is a stem seal that should be replaced behind the diaphragm. Were you able to get that?

Fusick has now had produced and tested a Viton diaphragm that is resistant to the Evans and other antifreeze like Dexcool with additives corrosive to the commonly used rubber diaphragms.
Doing one for me now. Be glad to have a heater back. -

Thanks Joe. The machine shop thinks that’s the way to go too. Think I’ll go that way as well.
My rocker assembly is up to get a new shaft and rocker and checked out.The rebuilder up in Northern Calif, I’ve heard he’s the guy everyone goes to including D&D, is going to come out with a stronger shaft option. Not available yet but will be after…[Read more]

So one and possibly 2 of the head bolt holes in the block that also hold down the rocker arm assembly are stripped out. Engine is fully assembled in the car. Head, valve train, and intake are removed. The hole that is completely stripped previously had a crack and the crack on the valley side that was welded up when the engine was rebuilt about…[Read more]

I appreciate it.
Yes, it has Fel-Pro now. I am only doing the one side. Yeah I have been looking and have come up with similar cost on an eng set but thought I could buy just one for $15-$20. You can for the Buick eng but not the Olds.
Here’s what I have found since the stripped bolt.
The stripped bolt allowed that journal to lift. In lifting it…[Read more] -

I have a stripped head bolt on the passenger side head, one of the ones that hold down the rocker assy, so I need to pull the head and put a hellicoil in.
That means I need a head gasket and all I can find are complete engine sets. Don’t need all the extra and don’t want to spend for it.Anyone have a source for/or a spare Fel-Pro head gasket…[Read more]

Thanks Joe. Just looked in on forum and see you replied. Based on the info noted here, once this leak gets to me and moves to the front of projects list I’ll pull the eng/trans to fix it.
That’s the wagon you bought up here in Santa Cruz Mtns at Luke’s isn’t it?

Thanks everyone. Yeah work involved to do it in car was more involved than i had hoped.
Normally, yes leads to other work on eng but this is a new engine so its a “simple” job of doing the gasket.
Pisses me off it leaks, especially cause i had a shop build the engine. They’ll happily replace it if i bring the eng back!Talk is pulling eng, i ass…[Read more]

I have a weeping pan gasket. Has anyone removed the pan with eng/trans in the car?
Looks like it may come out if i remove the center link and raise the eng a little?
Thanks.

Should be no problem with the heater core. Problem is the heater valve.
Sorry to say Fusick uses rubber for the diaphragm. I talked to Terry in the back who does their valve rebuilds. Everyone i checked with uses rubber. According to Terry and the Evans guy Dexcool and other modern antifreezes with Similar corrosion Resistance chemicals also…[Read more]

Not quite sure from your description what the fit is like. My vent window fits tight in mine but the rubber is a little high against the door skin. I think mine were stelle rubber but not sure, 2-3 years ago, Convert
Metro might make them too. I’ve used some of their stuff, good tech service too.,

Hi Joe,
I saw an old post of yours that you adapted a valve from Napa to replace your orig.
That’s probably my best option.
Do you have a picture of the install and possible a part number?
Thanks

I am on my 4th heater valve rebuild by Old Air. Looked at my history on rebuilds and I’m getting 6-10 months out of a valve and it starts to leak at the diaphragm. VERY unhappy.
I am using Evans waterless antifreeze which has worked out well and has good characteristics for alum…
In talking with the Evans tech on the problem he said they may…[Read more]
