When working on a 1962 Jetfire, the 1961 and 1962 Oldsmobile F-85 Service Manuals do not cover any of the special attributes of the Jetfire body or engine. The 1963 Oldsmobile Service Manual is the best source for repair information for the 1962 Jetfires. The only major change from 1962 to 1963 Jetfire is the alternator in place of the generator (electrical schematic) and the exterior sheet metal appearance. I have not found the correct electrical schematic for a 1962 Jetfire with a generator and the use of the external ignition resistor. All F-85’s in 1961 and 1962 have the resistor for ignition wire #2 built into the wiring harness and Jetfire uses an external resistor mounted to the coil bracket attachment bolt. The 1963 Oldsmobile Service Manual IS the one to own/use when working on a 1962 Jetfire!
Ignition wire #1 goes to the coil side of the external resistor. Ignition wire #2 goes to the input side of the external resistor. When starting your engine, ignition wire #1 supplies a full 12 volts to the coil. After start, ignition coil wire #2 supplies 5 to 7 volts through the external resistor, to the coil, for continuous operation.
Working on a 1962 Jetfire? GET a 1963 Service Manual!

Great link Ken! I wish I had that assembly manual when I restored my car.
