Hello, I am new to the site and new to Oldsmobile. I have always had an interest in cars and pickups and own a few of each. I have found a 1962 Jetfire 4 speed all original still has turbo. Car is fairly clean and has little rust in the floor pan. Owner cannot tell me when the last time the car ran was. Looking through the registered cars on this…[Read more]

Replacing tires on a 1962 Olds F-85 convertible. Two of the old tires are Armstrong P175/80R13, which Armstrong says it hasn’t produced in over 20 years! What is a good ‘driver’ tire (no show) for this car? Thanks for any help.

Yep, can be.
Zero offset on what size wheels Joe?
Does zero offset mean a 3” backspace on a 6” wheel?
Im using 15×6 with 3.5/8” backspace and a little bigger tire at 205 65 15. -

As I said previously, I know from firsthand experience that 215/60-15s fit just fine on wheels with zero offset with the stock wheel mounting surface locations.

Spindle is not changed. The hub fits with same mounting flange location as original 4 lug hub. My understanding from talking with BCPP is that it is located the same as the original hub. There are also a user or two of his 5 lug conversion the the 6163skylark site. Everyone seems very satisfied. Ben is also available to talk with and is happy to…[Read more]

So back to my original point. If the spindle and hub are changed, there’s no way to know what offset works without measuring the specific car with the specific disc brake conversion installed.

Thanks for the feedback, I have already installed the 5 lug spindle front & new 5 lug rear axle. I though I was going with 15X6 OE Style/ 5×4 3/4 bolt / 3.75″ backspace & American Classic 165R15, but the (rim) 15x 6 with a 3 5/8” backspace Wheel Vintique Smoothies looks like it might be an option. Will the Smoothies clear the disc brake?

BCCP doesn’t. He uses a different hub.
I dont know this for sure but i believe i remember the Tempest hub in front is a five lug? There is another one or two as well I believe. Couldn’t confirm which ones. Then you go for new axles in the rear I believe. BCCP can supply or Moser will make them. Not cheap.
Also, there are two hub styles, one tha…[Read more]

How do you drill the stock hubs for five lugs? There are only four thickened areas on the backside for the studs.

Oops, meant to say stock spindle and hubs.
Yep, I would imagine the thickness of the rotor hat would influence the wheel placement further to spindle and hub. -
joe_padavano replied to the topic Conversion to disc brakes in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 4 years, 7 months ago
The spindle has nothing to do with where the wheel mounting surface on the new rotors ends up relative to where it was with the stock drums. That’s entirely a function of the design of the rotor.

Uses the stock spindle for the 4 lug so no change.
