Any recommendations on what size battery to use in a Jetfire without going the vintage-style battery route?

I got one from AutoZone that fits fine. 35-DL. Basically, you are looking for a group 35 battery if you go to another parts store. If it has a handle on it I would take the handle off. they hug the hood insulation really close.

I bought a SP-22F, fit perfect. Was told it’s Nla as a car battery and is designated a garden tractor batt. Works good, 3years old, left lights on About a year ago and ran it flat and it charged back up and still going.

There are two styles, the one with the bracket that goes over the top of the battery and the one with the small clamp on the side. My South Gate-built 62 wagon came with the latter. Unfortunately, the batteries available today that fit don’t have the ridge that the little bracket clamps to.

The SP-22F has the ridge, fits perfect for the little bottom clamp.
If I had a choice I’d gone with the top clamp style, more versatility.
