You were correct oaklyss. The boost gauge was plugged up. The carb cleaner did not get it so I felt as if I had no other choice. I drilled out the back side where the tube goes into the copper. I tested pressure and vacuum from my new hole and the coil expanded and contracted like it should. I then took a smaller drill bit and drilled into the…[Read more]

More bugs to work out… I drove it about 7 miles and it turned off. It felt as if it ran out of gas. Showed 1/4 tank. I pulled the fuel bowl off and emptied it out and reinstalled it. I cranked it and it filled right up so it is not likely a supply problem. It ended up starting so I headed for home. A mile later it turned off again. Did this all…[Read more]

[quote quote=13235]All vacuum and boost gauges work the same with a copper coil inside that expands and contracts, so it should be cheap to get fixed. I have an extra one but it does not work and I am trying to fix it.I think the coils get clogged.[/quote]
I believe you are right. I took this one apart all the way to the copper coil and brass. I…[Read more]

Someone a year or so back give me a link to a place that offered the OLDSMOBILE emblems reproduction on the trunk lid of the 63 model year. Does anyone know who it is that offers these emblems?

I was looking through the extra parts I got with the car and found the hood emblem! It needs restored and I have no idea who can do this? The emblem is so delicate I can’t see how they can restore it. Does anyone have a recommendation where to send it?

That is my other problem. The only nice looking chrome ring I have has the little tabs broken off the bottom. Not sure how to fasten it to the case. Did you test it with vacuum and pressure? I thought mine would work because the needle moves free on them but neither one works.

Very nice! do you know if that is original paint? Is the turbo setup still on the car?

Another question, is there supposed to be a Jetfire emblem on the hood in 63? If so, does anyone have an extra they want to sell? Also, should the chrome on the back above the bumper have F-85 on it?

Looks like the boost gauge is not working for this car. I took it apart and I can not fix it. Does anyone have a good working used one they want to sell? I have two of them that don’t work and trying to weigh if it would be less to send them in and be restored or to get a good used working one.

I was just not meant to have any other color it looks like. I know of 3 others in Indiana that are this color but one of them does not have a white top

I needed this like a hole in my head, lol. A couple of you know this car but most don’t, this car was just finished from a 5 year restoration. It was restored to be a driver but I would say it is better than driver condition but for sure not a concourse restoration either. The owner did not know how to work on it and the restoration place did the…[Read more]

Good question. Someone just told me not long ago that they hand made them from a material that was similar to the original material. Not sure where to get that material or what it was. This may be a good one for Jim. He seams to find all kinds of materials.

No shroud in the 61-63 f-85 models. I did see a car that had a very nice looking home made one. I did not have a camera or I would have taken a picture of it.

I am sure it is the same car.
Don’t get me wrong. It is still a VERY cool car and will likely make someone very happy to own it. I (likely we) just don’t want to see someone get cheated by thinking it is something it is not. If they will sell it for $10K I think someone would be happy to own it for that if it is as nice as the pictures. If I did…[Read more]

Just be careful with dealing with this car. I talked to them on the phone and several emails. They first said they were not in a hurry to sell but wanted it to go to a Jetfire person. Said it was going to be a while till they got it out of the garage it was in. After a while of back and forth I ask a price and all of the sudden they were in a…[Read more]

What I find interesting is that the Jetfire that tag is off of was built the same week as my 4 speed Jetfire, 160 bodies apart.

That tag was removed from a Jetfire and they used pop rivets to install it on the convertible. These rivets are not original and obviously the tag is not original to the car either.
Here is a Jetfire tag with the correct rivets.

The one for a cross flow does not have a hole for the radiator cap and the one for the down flow has a hole where the cap is located. I believe (but not 100% sure) the one with the hole will also work for the cross flow but would not be “correct”
