Had a rainbow show up while working on the car today.
I got the heater boxes apart and cleaned up. Pulled the turbo and found that the foot flange gasket is really good. Very happy about that.
I was able to get the oil feed line apart without braking it. Took lots of oil and some heat many times for the past two days. This oil feed line is the…[Read more]

Also started cleaning the interior parts and deodorizing the best I can. It already smells much better but I still need to get the heater boxes out. The oil supply line to the turbo is not wanting to come apart without twisting the line so I have used some heat and oil on it. I am hopping to get it to loosen up by the weekend so I can finish…[Read more]

I wanted to take the car to MCACN with all the barn dirt but my allergies simply would not let me. I took the garden hose and lightly ran water over it to get the thick stuff off. It is still filthy on the outside but at least I can work on it better now.

That is the funny part about this car. I had called the guy and told him that I was not interested in the car but had questions for him. From the email that was forwarded to me I was under the impression that he was going to get it out and clean it up to sell it. I wanted to tell him to PLEASE not clean it up yet. I had him send me pictures “as…[Read more]

I have always liked the 62 better but this car is growing on me. I did not plan to keep it long term but now I am not sure. I guess I need to talk to my wife and see what she thinks. If you don’t hear from me in a couple days she killed me, lol.

That sucks… I am going to pull the turbo and likely the intake anyway so no big deal there. I am assuming that at least some lifters will be stuck and needing rebuilt like my other car. I don’t know for sure but I bet there is a mouse nest in the heater box. How hard is it to pull after the turbo is off? I assume some of the screws are hard to get to?

I scrubbed the floor and trunk pans and done lots of cleaning. Still a long road ahead on the interior. Took the plugs out of the floor and used a garden hose with lots of dish soap and a scrub brush. It is blazing hot outside today and already dried out good. I need to pull the heater box out and clean in there. I have not looked at it yet but…[Read more]

I went right to work on this car. I am pulling out the interior and going to clean everything the best I can. It is dry inside but smells really bad. I want to let it air out and deodorize it several times. I will use the Goop hand cleaner on it like I did my 62 on anything vinyl. I pulled the back carpet swept it and then hung it up to beat it…[Read more]

Found some documents. The Protecto Plates are still there. The engine number matches and this shows it is a 4 speed car from Oldsmobile.
Also found a document that confirms the original owners story. He said he had just had a muffler put on it before he parked it. This document I found shows that he got the muffler in July of 1970 with 88224…[Read more]

Stopped by the American Pickers place on the way home. Was funny because EVERYONE was taking pictures of it, with it so dirty people thought it would be part of the show, lol.

Just got home last night from bringing this 63 Jetfire home. It is a factory 4 speed car and was last plated in 1971 and from what I understand, the car was parked in this barn in 1976. The original owner is 77 years old and had given the car to his boy in the 80’s but still never done anything with it. I was able to get a picture of the original…[Read more]

jensenracing77 replied to the topic 63 Automatic Cutlass 10.75 Compression? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 6 months ago
I know you can mill them to that but I would not think the factory done it that way. Not sure how much would need milled but it could require shorter push rods.

I had no idea that they had different heads. I thought it was only a dish piston for the 2 bbl and flat top with valve reliefs for everything else. I bet those 38cc heads are hard to find.

I was just informed and checked it with original documents but the 63 Cutlass engine with the automatic transmission got 10.75:1 compression? This is in more than one factory document. I had no idea of this and wondering how they got the higher compression? Or if this is a really big screw up in the publications department. I would assume that it…[Read more]

Did 62 offer a glove box light? I am not seeing it in any of my information. I found it for 63 as code U27. I don’t have much experience with 63 but I just got this NOS harness with some other stuff. The guy just included it because he did not know what it went to. I am wondering if anyone knows if this is for the 63 (or even the 62) Cutlass and…[Read more]

OK, I need to do more research on radiators. On page two of this thread I noted that the 62 and 63 radiators are different. This may not be the case… I now know that there are three different codes for the Jetfire radiator for both years. I don’t think this is a year difference but an option difference. I am likely picking up a 63 Jetfire 4…[Read more]

I never put 2 and 2 together till now. My 4 speed car had this tag under the back seat. It shows the cowl tag number 1997, interior color, and 4 speed transmission. Not sure what the numbers are at the top. Anyone else find these under the back seat?
