Yes, It’s quite a project doing a 4 speed conversion. So many hard to find parts. I have most everything I need but when it comes time, if I have to put the automatic back in because i’m missing a couple parts,, so be it.

I can’t help you with the bolt style. However I am reminded that i need one of the end pieces like you have in your hand. I have the cross member but there was only end piece with it.

Tell her Dana and I are thinking about her and wish her a speedy recovery. You better start getting in shape so you can keep up with her when she walks that first mile.

johnsage replied to the topic '62 Jetfire with see-through hood in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 4 years, 9 months ago
I don’t have the answer to that question for sure. The one I looked at was mounted in what I was told was a 61 F85 hood. I know it was very similar to the 62 hood and I remember a similar latch assembly. The price on it was $65. and at the time it was more than I could afford to spend and I wasn’t 100%sure it would fit my 62. It looked like it…[Read more]

I saw that car at the Nationals in Columbus in 2003. The Shaudys had just finished restoring it I believe. They needed a good bottle of the turbo fluid for the holder under the hood and I remember sending them a new one still in the box. I actually had a chance to buy a see through hood which supposedly, if I remember right, came off a 1961 F85.…[Read more]

I can’t say for sure the automatic flywheel is out of a Jetfire but all my cars have been Jetfires, so I assume it is. I do have a known automatic Jetfire flywheel but it’s somewhere in my garage which is full of winter stored equipment.

I have 2 flywheels. One is an automatic and weighs 19 3/4 lbs. The other is a manual and weighs just over 32 lbs. It is drilled for my 10 inch clutch. I think it came out of a 63 4 speed Jetfire that I parted out. If I remember right I got it back from a friend I sold it to originally. I think I’ll check, it seems pretty heavy.

johnsage replied to the topic Very nice Jetfire crossover pipe wanted in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 4 years, 10 months ago
The 1963 parts catalog lists two different numbers for the Jetfire crossover pipe depending on automatic or standard transmission. I believe there is a small difference in how they are bent. I assume you are looking for the 4 speed version.

I am considering replacing the automatic in my 62 Jetfire with the 4 speed manual transmission. The car has power brakes. Does anyone know of any issues making this swap into a power brake car?

I believe I know of at least 2 other factory 4 speed 62 Jetfires. I’ll check into it for sure. I had one at one time which went through a couple more owners and then burned up in a forest fire in Montana. There is a picture of it in the cars without known owners section. It is red with a black vinyl top sitting on a car trailer.

Sorry to hear about your father Rick. This is a great website that he started, enjoyed by many. Probably most of us didn’t realize, or never thought about it, that there are expenses involved with maintaining such a website. If you don’t mind, please PM me concerning those expenses.

Actually I just blew on the tubing and it moved toward power, sucked on the tubing and it moved toward economy, pretty rough test. I don’t think I have a spare chrome ring. If you want I’ll send the unit to you and you can do what you want with it. I’ll never use it.
