62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic 62' Olds F85 Cutlass 5 lug conversion and disc break conversion in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 7 months ago

Check the 6163.Skylark forum for an extended thread on the conversion. Both Scarebird and BCCP conversions are covered. Several of those guys are using a Rambler manual mc I believe. Cheap and small for Manual brakes, drum/drum but they like it for the disc/drum. BCCP will sell you one of their new alum mcs which is small, manual, and expensive.…[Read more]

There are two styles of ball joints, press in and thread in. You need to make sure you get the right type. Rare Parts in stockton CA makes good stuff with a stock and sometimes an upgraded part called their Diamond Series-if you can buy at jobber rate good prices, Fusick olds has them I think, Kanter Bro but probably pricey, there are others as…[Read more]

Can the Webmaster please comment on the problem?

    Is it under resolution?

62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic Sensor location for gauge? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 8 months ago

Sure, I get that. My concern is that I seem to be measuring it at a spot considerable lower than the factory location. I have been checking ends other than the 215 and some measure in same spot, direct outflow from a head and some measure in n accumulation point behind the thermostat as in where I m set up.

I did just have a breakthrough of…[Read more]

62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic Sensor location for gauge? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 8 months ago

So I put a gauge sensor in the factory location and wow, a 20 to 30 degree difference from my location behind the thermostat. Factory location higher. I already compared the two sensors and they perform the same. Same gauge, I just changed the sensor signal wire back and forth between the two sensors. Now I don’t know what to think!

BTW my sensor has the probe fully in the coolant flow pretty much directly above where the coolant returns from each bank and enters the manifold center cavity behind the thermostat.

Are you guys using elect or mechanical/capillary tube gauges? I’m running a Stewart Warner Deluxe type electric gauge, 100-280 range.

    Great info.
So what I did was build up the small boss in front of the carb/behind the thermostat and drill and tap it to drop a sensor in at that location. Seemed like a good spot and I could keep the factory light sensor in orig location. So I am running at about 185 while cruising and hitting 205 when on a long uphill grade, hotter than I…[Read more]

Those of you who have fitted gauges, where did you locate the sending unit?

And what temp do you run in warm weather cruising at 60 on a level road and when pulling a long hill?

    Thanks.

As you say with Facebook the info will be lost and not available for future reference.

That is why we need a functioning SEARCH for the forum postings

Can the webmaster please reinstate the old search function. The one at the top of the page pulls up articles, not postings. It was a very useful feature that enabled you to find discussions on lots of topics discussed in depth in the past.

    Please advise status.

I think most are at least cracked, if not having pieces broken ofF. We have 3 cars an all are either cracked or broken to some degree. They are really brittle at this point. If only cracked you should be able to repair from insidE.

Can the webmaster weigh in on this.
Am I doing something wrong in the search field at the top right of the page?

I can’t seem to search for a subject in the forum and get a response. It takes me to articles or unrelated items.

    Thanks

62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic Larger front sway bar? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 9 months ago

I think you’ll find it stiff enough for the street with just the addition of the rear. A sway bar does also firm up the ride. Especially over certain road surfaces.

Do you have a Rover eng? I guess those would be metric.
Should be able to determine thread type and size at somewhere that sells American and metric hardware. Home Depot, Lowe’s, a good auto parts store.

Did you install the rear sway bar?
Don’t know of a bigger front but the rear made a substantial improvement. Car doesn’t lean much at all.
