BruceM replied to the topic Looking for '62 INBOARD taillight housing in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 1 month ago
I may have to get a couple used ones re-plated and then try to match the silver/gray paint. I don’t think the paint should be very hard to match the color.

Hi Guys, I’m trying to find a pair of NOS ’62 inboard taillight housings. These seem a bit difficult to find. The outboard ones (Part No. 5951788) are rather plentiful and I have a few of those NOS. The inboard ones are different in that the hole in the back is smaller (no notch in it either). The part number is either 926110 or 5952938.…[Read more]

BruceM replied to the topic What is wrong with this car? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 3 months ago
Okay, guys, I bought this car and trailered it home on Saturday. It is a pretty clean and straight car with the rust out on the right rear wheel well and a smashed in left rear quarter panel, but nothing that can’t be fixed. The amazing thing is that it is complete, with the original turbo on the car. It appears to be an original Utah car and…[Read more]

I made a deal for this car. I’ll pick it up on Saturday. I’ll take some photos and post them for y’all.

I think I’ve seen the Jetfire style battery trays on ’61 F-85s/Cutlasses. I may be wrong on that so please feel free to correct me, but for some reason that sticks out in my mind.

Let me know how that works, Eric. I don’t think I want to try Inline Tube again.

Okay, here’s the final installment in this saga. The short version is that Inline Tube DOES NOT have the correct fuel return line for the Jetfire. They simply make a 1/4 inch duplicate of the main 5/16 inch fuel line and call it the return line.
I went my rounds with the customer service guy at Inline Tube when he told me that they could…[Read more]

I know this car. I saw it about 20 years ago in the Ogden area when I was looking for a ’62 Jetfire. It has the rear glass broken out of it. Maybe I’ll buy it and have it for one of my future projects. It’s close enough here in Utah to not be a big deal to transport.

I talked to the Inline Tube guys today and they think they had a mix-up in their sorting and got my correct fuel lines mixed up with another order. Hmmm. So, they are looking for the correct lines. That’s nice to hear because I couldn’t believe they were going to insist that what they sent me was correct. I’ll update the outcome of this. I’ve…[Read more]

BruceM replied to the topic Inner fender plastic clips in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 5 months ago
I’ve wondered this myself. Those tend to break and I haven’t been able to find anyplace that reproduces them. I think I’ve managed to find one NOS one, but that’s it. The others I’ve used I’ve scavenged off of parts cars. I hope someone out there knows of a place that reproduces these.

Thanks, guys. I guess the thing that’s really surprising to me is that the lines they sent me aren’t even close to being correct. Where could they have come from? I’m pretty sure it’s not from a ’61-’63 F-85/Cutlass/Jetfire. I’m thinking that I’ll probably just clean up, paint and reuse my original lines and ask them for a refund.

I ordered a fuel line and fuel return line for my 1962 Jetfire restoration project from Inline Tube. When I received them, the lines they sent were not even close to being correct. See the attached pictures of what they sent me next to the original lines. I sent them these pictures and they are now telling me that what they sent me was correct.…[Read more]

Thanks, Eric. I think I’ll go with the one I have as it appears in good condition and it won’t matter for performance.

I’m restoring a ’62 Jetfire with a 4 speed manual transmission. It was pretty heavily modified by the previous owner so I’m trying to find some original Jetfire parts. I pulled the distributor and found that it has the part number for the Jetfire distributor with the automatic transmission (1111013). The distributor part number for the manual…[Read more]

BruceM replied to the topic Door glass is Buick the same in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 8 years ago
Steele Rubber Products used to sell the steel door window channel for the Jetfire. Check them out. I bet they still do. You have to cut off the brackets for the rollers on your old channel and weld them onto the ones you buy. But, they will be new and not rusted out. Mine were rusted out and I had to do this. I then had them chrome plated to…[Read more]

BruceM replied to the topic ball joints in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 8 years, 5 months ago
The upper ball joints are threaded in. The lower ball joints are threaded in originally from the factory, but the GM replacement lower ball joints are press in. You just press them in through the threads in the opening. I have seen some replacement lower ball joints that are threaded in, but not too many. It’s not a difficult job if you have a…[Read more]

Anyone have a bell crank for a 4 speed Jetfire they could sell? The one I have was modified by the previous owner and he messed it up. These are different from the automatic ones as I believe that the automatic one has an attachment for the automatic tranny kick down rod. Please let me know. Thanks for your help.

BruceM replied to the topic Cutlass battery tay hold downs in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years, 10 months ago
Your battery tray looks like it is in good shape. Many I have seen have been rusted through because of the exposure to battery acid. The hold down for these is a bolted in clamp that goes on the right side of the tray in your bottom picture. The battery should have a flange that fits under the left side part of the battery tray that sticks up…[Read more]
