Here’s a dwg of the muffler. Also available in 12″ length but I think that would be too loud.

I will be doing a full dual pipe system on my Cutlass rather than stock and am looking at the 18″Super HP 2 mufflers from Flowmaster. They are very compact, stainless, are insulated and run very cool on the outside, and are often used in close mounting situations according to Flowmaster.. Anyone have any feedback on them?

Yeah, of course that’s the concern. I keep going back and forth. I have a new rebuild kit that I bought for my orig pump which was damaged and turned out to not be rebuildable so I am still considering. Thanks for the input.

Just bought a NOS fuel pump. My old one was not rebuildable.

What’s the experience out there on using a NOS pump with the new gas formulation. I am in Calif. Should I rebuild it anyway or will it hold up?

That looks like the picture in the service book. I’ll send you a PM. Thanks very much.

Went to disconnect my steering from the front sub frame to begin the process of getting an engine in this project and noticed I am missing the C clip that holds the steering coupler together.

Does anyone have a source or crossover part application for what looks like a special clip?

    Thanks

Had a couple of these fabbed up from .0625 stainless for the Jetfires. Came out pretty good. Did a straight one for the Cutlass. Here’s a pict of the Jetfire pipe..

62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic Cutlass battery tay hold downs in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years, 10 months ago

Thanks everyone for your help. The literature Jim sent was particularly useful and has led to me purchasing an Interstate SP-22F which has the proper bottom lugs and fits perfectly in the tray. Note the dimensions shown for the 22F are overall and include the lugs and top protrusions, the footprint is smaller and fits the tray just right.…[Read more]

    Hi Jim,

Thanks, I would like a retainer and I’ll send a PM, don’t have your email. The tray in the pic is in a car “in waiting”. I have the tray in my convert blasted and coated with POR15, they said it holds up to battery acid. Both trays are in good shape.

Couple of general information questions here for everyone-
    -I bought a group 26R battery…[Read more]

For sure these are orig. Two 62 cutlass converts, one make in CA and the other in Kansas I think. Original brackets with lower to inner frame and wheel well inner fender stiffner bracket. The 62 Jetfire at the shop has the style you show with the same lower and inner fender brackets as the cutlass. I think the style you show is the most prevalent…[Read more]

We got lucky on the trays, both in good shape but neither with the hold downs.

Thanks for narrowing this down and if you have a hold down it would be great.

Hope the battery I just got has the lugs for it, got a Group 26R.

Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks again.

Been checking the internet for pictures and it looks like there are a couple of styles for the battery hold downs. One with a top hold down that goes across the width of battery.

Then there are images of the battery with “no”top hold downs visible, with the image not showing the lower part of the battery and tray. I’m thinking there is a bottom…[Read more]

I have a battery tray but no hold down bolts or top hold down. Does anyone have a supplier and can someone provide some pics of the top and side hold downs? I don’t know what they look like. Different than a Jetfire. Hold down goes end to end. Attached a couple of old pics of the tray.
    Thanks

Thanks Jim, picked up both hoses for my Cutlass and they look good! I’m going to run a transfer pipe like the Jetfire.

I think descriptions got a little mixed up along the thread here, and I may be wrong but for clarity I believe the #21860 “J” hose from heater to manifold is the hose common to the Cutlass as well as Jetfire, both the Cutlass’…[Read more]

Thanks Jim, appreciate the clarification and the ID of heater hoses we can use for the Jetfire we are working on, and the Cutlass convertible. Now I know why the Cutlass pipe was “missing”.

I think I’ll pick up both hoses for both cars and put a simple front to back pipe on the Cutlass too since there’s no side nipple to complicate it, just…[Read more]

Thanks. Yes, interested to know if the Cutlass one is missing or was never there at all.

If you don’t need the jetfire spare transfer pipe, we are interested in buying one in good shape. Gotta clean up the one we have but I think it has significant corrosion. Please let me know what you find.
