Great find Eric! My efforts 34 years ago could not get this info! Hope you go after the ’63 Jetfire data too. Would be interesting if they had records for all the F-85’s. Keep up posted.

Jim Noel replied to the topic Jetfire V Spyder reliese dates in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years, 3 months ago

    Hi Eric,
I do not have a good answer to your question. April 20,1962 was the date of the Press Release for Jetfire. I don’t know if you could get one at a dealer on that date. They did make 100’s or 1,000’s before that date and I have always assumed they were at the dealers by April 20. That was standard protocol of the time.
    Every article that I…[Read more]

    Hi Guys,

    Hi JBKISH
Thanks for the info. I looked on eBay and only found a 63-64 mirror. The listing is not correct, the mirror is not for a 62 F-85 body car. If I have not found the one you are suggesting, please send me the link to the one you found.
    Thanks, Jim

Jim Noel replied to the topic '62 F-85 Outside Rear View Mirror Wanted in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years, 5 months ago

Yes, the 1962 Y body outside rear view mirror was an option. It is listed as option R-1 for $4.51. For the 1963 Y bodies the outside rear view mirror is listed as D-32 for $4.51 or a remote controlled one D-33 for $11.78.
My original new purchase of a 1962 F-85 came without the rear view mirror and I bought one from the dealership and installed…[Read more]

I am looking for a original equipment style outside rear view mirror. They were only produced in “left hand” configuration and the (OEM) part number is . I am looking for one that doesn’t have any pitting and will not require re-chroming to go on a show car. The mirror glass is replaceable, so the glass condition is not important to me.

Jim Noel replied to the topic What cam are you using on your Jetfire? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years, 6 months ago

    Hi Eric,
FYI, I have the same cam in my Red Jetfire, and like it too. Auto now works fine.
Can’t find the number I ordered for my Jetfire conv’t back in 2006 but it is very good with the 4-speed. Yes, I can “bark” the tires in all gears, auto and 4 speed!

Thanks Ken, much appreciated! I love to see the little F-85’s!
Looks like OCA is true to form, “birds of a feather CAN’T flock together! But 2 out of 3 is getting better!

Jim Noel replied to the topic 62 Olds Cutlass F85 seats (upholstery) in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years, 8 months ago

The 63 bucket seats do have the stainless steel trim piece across the top of the back rest and down the sides. The picture from the upholstery supplier does not show the trim, but it should be there. Here is a pic from Ken that shows the 63 blue seat, with the trim piece.

The seat frames and springs are the same. The upholstery is completely different between 62 and 63 Olds. The upholstery is also different between Olds, Buick and Pontiac. I have not found anyone who offers the 62 Olds Cutlass/Jetfire seat covers “ready to buy/install”. Cutlass and Jetfire upholstery pattern, materials and colors are the same. SMS…[Read more]

Jim Noel replied to the topic Fuel pump with modern gas advice in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years, 9 months ago

Well……I have used the NOS type Jetfire and Cutlass fuel pumps for years (almost 54 now). Have never had a fuel pump diaphragm problem. Recent (15 to 20 years) unleaded gas has alcohol added for octane boost and emission control. The best answer to have diaphragms resistance to these fuels is to have them made from fluoroelastomer material ie:…[Read more]

Recent questions regarding Cutlass exhaust systems sent me searching for this old post about mufflers and dual exhaust added to Cutlass cars. Here is the muffler info brought forward. It would be cool to have a search method on our website.

Jim Noel replied to the topic Cutlass battery tay hold downs in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years, 10 months ago

    Hi,
Just sent you an email regarding battery’s & trays.
Yes, you should have the 1963 service manual. Covers almost everything you will need to know. Electrical is slightly different with the 63 alternator charging system and of course body/sheet metal.
