I have long wondered why Oldsmobile put the seam for the front inlet on the top side of the air cleaner. Well, I just found one that was flipped. After noticing this one was flipped I looked through pictures of others I have had and the one on the 63 barn car I had was on the bottom. Now I need to decide what one I want to use on my car. I am…[Read more]

Are you talking for between the box and the firewall? I am not sure what the proper stuff is but I think I am going to use 3-M strip caulk

Someone here has mentioned about this clip (or heater hose hook) before and not sure who it was? Maybe Jim? This is the first time I have ever found one of these hooks. It goes on the bottom of the heater core box and holds a heater hose. I had the parts car for almost two years and just now found it. This hook has been long lost on both of my…[Read more]

Is that royal mist or garnet mist? Did you have trouble matching the paint? Mine are royal mist and the body guy had fits getting the color right.

Just had a fried send me this blue one. I will not be using it on my car but do plan to cosmetically restore the engine I got from Ken Dennison to a really high level for a display and will likely use it on that engine.

The first picture is of my original air cleaner to my 4 speed car. It don’t match what the manual says. The last two pictures are of the original to my wifes car before I bead blasted it and redone it the first time. I did not know of the assembly manual at the time so took measurements of that one. It was crooked from the factory and was very…[Read more]

I did get word yesterday that my windshield wiper motor will be delayed. The place he is using for zinc plating has a military contract that has all priority and then Chicago shut them down over the virus. I guess the feds have to get involved over Chicago shutting them down. When they are running again, this stuff is on the back burner. He…[Read more]

I Knew it was in the manual but I was going by the original one from my car. I am not sure how I ended up with it off because I had them side by side. I decided to not restore the original one from my car and keep as an original reference. I ended up pulling this one off my wifes car and restoring it but I am going to do another one and the best…[Read more]

I have the air cleaner finished. The decal is about 1/4 inch off center but I don’t think it will bother me any. Thought about warming it up and taking it off to redo it. I think I will just leave it as is.

One side goes to the choke housing, I assume you are talking about picture two goes to the choke? The other line from the other side, all it is will be a filtered air supply and not hooked to a vacuum source. I am not sure if the 2 and 4 bbl had them hook to the air cleaner or if there is a port at the top of the carburetor for it. It the port for…[Read more]

Had some time tonight so started polishing the chrome interior screws. Polished them and then blew out the polish from the heads and wiped them down again. This is just a small sample of the interior screws. Man do these have lots of chrome screws on the interior.

More bead blasting today. Also cut out the rubber strips for the front corners of the fenders. I wanted to find staples like the originals but I will likely just get some wire and make my own. My original parts for the headlight area were not any good so luckily I have some good ones from another car.

I started on this tank a year ago. The original tank was not undercoated and was really rough. It even sprung a little leak at the seam. I pulled this tank from another 62 Cutlass and was undercoated. So far, All the Jetfire cars and parts cars I have had never had undercoating on the tanks and the Cutlass’ cars did. I already had the tank dried…[Read more]

Very cool! I had not heard of them before. The white walls they offer for my size is to wide at 2.5 inches but looks like they offer a custom whitewall. Not sure how much that would cost but I will at least check and see.
Here are pictures of my original spare 15 inch tire.

It will be white wall radials with a thinner white wall than the originals. I can’t find a radial with the original style 15 inch white wall. I may have the original wheels repainted and use the old bias ply tires with the correct white walls for shows and then the radials for driving. Sounds good but in reality, I will not likely do the work and…[Read more]

jensenracing77 replied to the topic Color matching carpet supplier in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 5 years, 11 months ago

How is the carpet you have? Other than the color? If your carpet is at all usable, I would not replace it and just get some SEM interior paint that matches close and spray the carpet and then if it is not an exact match, just spray the panel carpet also. I have no experience with aftermarket carpet for these cars.

Stopped in with the body guy. He has most of it all done. Still has to paint the wheels and some small interior parts. He was buffing the hood when I got there. He starts installing pools really soon and don’t need the space so I am leaving the body there till sometime in May. I have to gut my garage and get it cleaned up before I bring it home. I…[Read more]

Just got another picture. I will likely go out there tomorrow. The front fenders are just sitting on it and the doors will need aligned after it is on the ground. Now is when it gets really fun for me. I hope to make good progress for the next two months but after that I will slow down again.

I had wondered about maybe needing to do new stitching but was hopping I didn’t need to. Maybe I had better be safe and do it. I never took the bows out of the headliner because I was worried I would harm it. The bows look good and not rusty so I would rather leave them in. I have not looked but is it possible to stitch it with the bows still in?
