If you’re interested, my parts guy matched my old one up with I believe a mount from 1970 thru 1972 Chevelle. It was the same height and bolted directly to the trans. The part was only $7.40 back in 1998. Also, if I remember correctly, I had to slightly enlarge the bolt holes in the crossmember and get larger diameter mounting bolts. Center to…[Read more]

Beautiful car Jim! Great job on the restoration. It feels like it’s 1962 all over again.

I missed Jim’s post above. Now I’m really curious what “2M” means and what is common between the cars that have it. All the other codes begin with a letter, not a number.

Is it possible that your ’63 had factory air conditioning but all the components were removed by the previous owner? I thought you said the ’63 had automatic transmission that was converted to 4-speed manual. Could they possibly have made other modifications you aren’t aware of? All of the A/C components were removed from my car several years…[Read more]

I wonder what the 2M code in the ACC line of my ’63 Cutlass tag and Eric’s ’63 Jetfire tag means? It doesn’t correspond to any of the codes I’ve seen. I have several options on my car but the major ones are automatic transmission, air conditioning, power brakes and power steering. The holes in the fire wall for the air conditioning lines look…[Read more]

Jim, I believe the website you were looking for is 1962Oldsmobile.com It is still active. Here’s a link directly to the Fisher Body data plate decoder:

You may have to copy and paste this to your web browser. I’m not sure how to make it a hyperlink. The codes seem to be correct….the S-384 on Eric’s…[Read more] -

This topic has come up before in this forum. My car built with factory A/C. Here’s the cowl tag. I assume the “2M” on the ACC line denotes the A/C option. Hopefully this photo uploads corrctly

Nice Eric! Side by side shows how completely different the 62 & 63 bodies are, aside from the roof and windows. Wish I lived closer to Indy. I’d like to check out the 63 closer. Do you know if the passenger side mirror was factory installed? Or maybe dealer installed? Or one of the past owners? I’ve never seen one. Is it the same as the…[Read more]

You might want to cut your own using Neoprene Foam Closed Cell Sponge EPDM sheet. This material is similar to the original gasket material. 1/16″, 3/32″ and 1/8″ thicknesses are available on Ebay in smaller sheet sizes. Use the lens to make an impression on the sheet to make an outline and cut it carefully with an X-acto knife. Should be…[Read more]

I had one of my emblems restored by Iverson Automotive and he did a great job fixing the pits and re-chroming it. I did the painted parts of it myself. I shopped around and they were the least expensive, Paul’s Chrome was the most expensive at a little over 3 times the cost of Iverson. I got pricing from 3 others that were in the middle. If…[Read more]

I was lucky enough to find an N.O.S. repair kit several years ago. I doubt anyone is reproducing these parts new. Attached is a technical service bulletin that has part numbers for the first and second style repair kits. If you can’t find the N.O.S. parts you may have to get a used driveshaft from a salvage yard and scavenge the parts. Maybe…[Read more]
