Greg Oakley replied to the topic 1962 Jetfire – Convertable? from factory? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 8 years, 5 months ago
No Jetfire convertibles were ever built. The dealer could have made one up to get a sale, but unlikely. It could only be validated by factory paperwork, like a Protecto Plate. Someone built this car, its been done before. And its been customized.
Value would be what a custom 62 convertible would be worth, what the condition is, plus the value of…[Read more] -

Jim, Thanks for posting this. I never saw the New York Times article.
Wow, that Cirrus Blue 1962 Jetfire sure got famous. But it is a special car and that’s why it sold for $42,100. I found it in a garage in Los Angeles where it had been sitting for over 25 years, not running. The original owner had died and the family was selling everything. It…[Read more] -

wOW, thanks for posting the link Eric, I have never seen that full version. Now we know the whole story of the 4 people in the Jetfire from the black and white commercial.
It must be a pre-production Jetfire. The console has satin chrome instead of polished chrome. The fluid tank cap is also different. It looks like the windshield has a rubber…[Read more] -

I have put the Crower Level 3 in a 62 Skylark 215. And I have put a Crower Level 2 in a 61 Olds Cutlass 215. Both worked fine. The level 3 was lopey-er of course..

Greg Oakley replied to the topic 4 speed transmission tunnel differences in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 8 years, 8 months ago
This car is an original 4 speed. The tunnel is modified like Jim shows. I will take photos when I remove the carpet as I have only seen it from under the car.

How did the factory make the 4 speed fit? was it a different floor pan, and can anyone post a photo?

I don’t know if this is the original carpet, I never seen one like this. Really nice fit, and its cut and sewn on the tunnel. Its just dirty and would need the SEM dye, but can anyone say this is original?

Original Jetfire distributor for manual transmission will have the part number 1111021 stamped on the point plate. My date code is 2 L 8 which decodes as November 8, 1962, correct for the car build date:

That’s the car Jim. I will make it roadworthy and then see what it needs.
The engine compartment is painted Black. I have confirmed there is no body color under the black paint. The car is a 01D BC (January 1963, 4th week, Southgate California) build. Body #791. There is a number hand written in grease pencil near the Turbo fluid tank of “2539”…[Read more] -
