Latest update : after installing a 4 speed Tranny and it working smoothly, I also swapped out the old Rochester Carb for a MSD Fuel Injected Carburetor – starts right up without pumping the gas pedal every time – I no longer deal with rough starting after the engine has been warmed due to fuel evaporation in the float chamber……..F.I. Carb is […] View

911pilot replied to the topic Alternator conversion in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years ago

I researched and found that Powermaster makes a model that will actually bolt on the existing mounting points off our ’62 engine block; no hunting around for ’63 mounts. It comes with an internal regulator; and only in a 90 amp option. It only comes as a single-wire configuration – not sure if that is a bad option. Jeggs will provide you with all…[Read more]

Any advise to swapping out my generator for an alternator? Id like to go with a 100 amp 3-wire, and gut out the old regulator box and use it as a junction box for the wire connections. Im adding a significant custom sound system and thought a 100 amp would be adequate size. I thought 3-wire because they are more readily available at auto parts…[Read more]

Thanks. I just cant get over the skinny 165’s that are on it now. Looks grossly disproportionate! I have the 13″rims Ill tryout the 185 too.

Does anyone know if the current stock steel rims can accept a wider size tire. My car currently carries a 165 width tire. Looks extremely unproportional and wimpy. I’d like to go with a 195 size width.

Yes…I am interested. Other than the hood, do you have any other Jetfire insignia and/or fender badges?

3-piece side body trim and two front Jetfire fender badges is what I also need.

Does anyone know of hubcap refinishers. I have full size wheel covers that have faded paint and dull finish; lite corrosion on the inside cover. I’m looking to get them refinished. The Hubcaps.com folks informed me they no longer do it….Im at a loss.

I decided however to go with the 60 degree 700R4 (4L60), using a 1986 or newer (prefer the 190/1991) model; the 200R4 and the 200C are excellent choices but again I feel for my application the 700R4 is best suited because of its smaller size; I don’t have to change the flywheel; mates nicely with the adapter from D&D fabricators and…[Read more]

So given the choice between the 200R4 and the 200C you recommend the 200C for its size thus requiring less modifications to the tunnel?

Your right, the only option is to stay with a BOP and go with the 200–4R AND the stock carb will not work with the cable linkages………I’ll have to update with an Eddlebrock .

What about my current 2-piece drive shaft? Whether I go with the 200-c or the 200-R4, will I keep, modify or have to replace my drive shaft? Are there changes to the differential that is also required?

I did spend ample time searching for parts and concluded that even if I was fortunate to find “that required part” I would be in this same predicament for the next repair. Getting a 200 C tranny provides me with some “piece of mind”

Custom Classics (Island Lake Illinois) who’s undertaking the project has spoken to Mark and as you mentioned it is doable. Im however hoping to use my original 4-barrel Rochester; I know mark pushes the Eddlbrock for simplicity sake and maybe he’s right after doing the conversion. I realize there will be an ample amount of fabrication/frustration…[Read more]

I’ve had it with my Roto 5! Spent thousands $$ only to have it still not shift smoothly. After talking to the folks at D&D Fabricators, I’ve been just about convinced to purchase their bell housing adapter which mates well with a Chevy 5 speed tranny. This will be a winter project. My 62 F85 convert deserves a better tranny. D&D does require a…[Read more]

Thinking about swapping out my gen for an alternator. Will be adding a “hidden high wattage sound system”. Does any one have any suggestions. Found a guy in Oregan who will convert your existing generator using the original generator casing and building an alternator on the inside……no pulley change, no bracket changes. From the outside the…[Read more]

Zinc oil additive question “should I stay or should I go” with Zinc oil additive
Getting ready for the spring clean/ prep up; any one know if the zinc additive oil is the way to go? D&D seems to be a believer in zinc, but again they happen to sell their special oil. Do I go with standard HD 5w30
