62 Cutlass Convert started the topic Torque plate for 215 V8-For engine boring/honing rebuilding process in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 4 months ago
We had a torque plate made for the boring/honing of the 215 block. This bolts to the block and duplicates the condition present with the heads bolted down resulting in a more accurate machining process on final assemblly.. Google Torque Plate and talk to your machinist for specifics.
Typically the machine shop has this tool for common engines,…[Read more]

I may be wrong but I don’t think you can you have an 8″ wheel with both 0 offset and 4.5″ backspace. Need an expert here.
Could easily go with a 7″ wheel for 215. That’s what I run on my 64 El Camino. I think 215 is the smallest size for an 8″, very straight sidewall will result, probably good for handling, maybe firmer ride.

Might be lower mount bolts for the Hydralic ram on converts. There is a U bracket welded to the floor with a captive nut on one side. The ram eye sits in the middle of the U and rides on the shoulder of the bolt. My best guess.

1984 should be a TH200C with lockup. There will an electrical connector on the left (driver) side. It will have either 1 (internal al ground) or 2 pins (external ground). Make sure you can get your money back if it’s not rebuildable. Use a shop that is performance oriented to the TH200 like REMAC. ATI or Turbo Action who make cast alum pans for…[Read more]

Make sure its a th200C which has lock up. You buying rebuilt or used? I wouldn’t buy a used one , you need to buy a rebuild by a shop that knows them and how to do the HD iimprovements. You might buy a core cheap that is guaranteed rebuildable if you have an experienced shop in mind that can build it how you want it done but then the shop can…[Read more]

Very poor and getting worse tire selection in 14″. OK diameter in that size. Good selection in 15″ and even better in 16″ as they are still a modern wheel size. Lots of Hondas and Toyotas running around on 205 15s and 16s. No one uses 14″s anymore so few modern tires are made in it.Seems like white wall is your main criteria so you need to…[Read more]

Had a similar problem with In Line Tube with my 62 convert brake line complete car kit- front to back line. So I sent them pics of my line and they sent me another line, also wrong. They then checked further and matched the line in my pic, and they did have the program for the line I wanted . Evidently lines vary even for the same model or the…[Read more]

That’s what I am running on a 64 El Camino it works out pretty good. I like black walls anyway so I don’t worry about it, then you can pick the tire you want. But I’m not running a show car, I like good performance in a tire and pick it based on that and what I want to spend.
I googled 215 60 15 white wall tire and see a company called Calli under…[Read more] -

Really should be running 6.5″ or wider rim for 215 tires. Bulging side wall will result in poor handling with a lot of side wall roll, poor steering response … 205 is about it for 6″ rims. People do run wide tires on skinny rims but you sacrifice proper performance.

62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic wheel/tire size in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 5 months ago
I don’t know if it will fit but IMO it’s too big anyway. That’s over 27 inches. I am running a 205 65 15 which is about 25.5″, about the diameter of the original 15″ option. The 13″ rims ran even smaller tires. The side wall on a 205 75 is going to be very high and it will roll a lot resulting in poor handling. More like a small truck tire. Of…[Read more]

If you’re asking about the TH200C 3 speed it worked out good. No major clearance issues. There was some clearancing necessary with a hammer and or porta-power in the tunnel as I think I talk about earlier in this thread but no cutting. Not extreme. Floor console goes back in. Also clearanced/grinding the case of the trans here and there. Actually…[Read more]

62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic water temperature controll valve in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 6 months ago
If you cut the capillary tube and take the valve off it’s easy, which is of course sacrilege. If you want to keep the capillary tube in place on the valve you need to remove the heater box with the heater core as the capillary tube is behind the core and you can’t get it out without removing the heater box from the eng compartment. I other words,…[Read more]

The general answer is yes. But of course it depends on how bad the problem and how much money you want to spend to have someone repair it. As the saying goes, “nothing money won’t fix’. I .have a background in the manufacture and repair of commercial circuit boards and a tech can lay down new traces, do jumpers, rivet new terminal connectors…[Read more]

62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic water temperature controll valve in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 6 months ago
If you found a NOS one you would probably want to rebuild it anyway since the seals would be dried out. Had mine rebuilt by OldAir. Be careful pulling out the temp sensor, it’s a capillary tube and once cracked or broken it’s done. On the other hand the valve functions perfectly well without this early and not so effective temp control function.
