See your post on same subject from June 27, 2016 and the subsequent discussion. Pretty much answers your questions above.

Thanks. Yeah got some commiseration on Classic Olds site and advice to keep fiddling and increasing compression on it gradually but no one with direct experience, and have no feedback from the 6163skylark site. Steele Rubber says they have sold lots of sets so someone out there must have experience with the fit.

Here’s the oll pump gasket from “Best Gaskets”, manufacturer of vintage gaskets Note relief area is not missing on these gaskets. See these on ebay for $9-10 dollars. These are from Egge Machine at $1.48 each.

I am fitting new weathersrtip to the convertible top frame and am having difficulty with the pieces that are over the doors and wrap the corners of the front bow. The angle and mass of the corner that goes under the front bow seems too big and holds the bow up well off the windshield. The strip that goes side to side on the bow seems too small and…[Read more]

Thanks, but I am using a Melling rebuild kit already on this new eng and my bottom oil pump cover plate and timing cover are in very good shape. Also the Melling kit uses the same type of gasket shown in the pictures, no relief for the slot and oil pressure relief dump hole. So does not solve the problem.

Update-Found that “Best Gaskets” stocks an eng gasket set for these engs and it has an original style oil pump gasket #3704 WITH the slot relieved-just like the pic in the service manual. Got one coming.

Melling says their gasket has been made the way it is currently supplied (no relief for the long slot) for 36 years, beyond that no history.…[Read more]

Need some help from engine builders on an oil pump issue, question, mystery??
The oil pump gasket as supplied in the Felpro eng gasket set and the Melling oil pump kit blocks the long slot in the upper part of the oil pump casting-the portion that is part of the front cover with the gear pocket. The oil pump cover that bolts up to the upper potion…[Read more]

Like the white 14s. Not much tire selection available in either size, 14s a little better than 13s I guess but then your 13s are almost new anyway. Go to 15″ and lots of tires to choose from. If it’s temp I’d go with the one with good tires.

62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic Jetfire Windshield Replacement in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years, 3 months ago

No clips at all for the windshield weatherstrip trim. The trim pushes into a slot in the weatherstrip. But be careful removing it from the old weatherstrip, it has a hook at the bottom that keeps it in. It’s easy to bend. The guy that did my windshield cut the weatherstrip away first.

Don’t know if you can switch over but I think it might work.…[Read more]

According to Wikipeidia which does regularly have errors, “In Spring of 1962 Chevrolet really committed itself to the sporty image they had created for the Corvair by finally introducing a Convertible version and then offering a high performance 150 hp (112 kW; 152 PS) turbocharged “Spyder”[16] option for Monza coupes and convertibles, making the…[Read more]

Oh boy, at least I said it was a stupid question. Now I get it.

Maybe others can chime in on this but if you are concerned with some pitting, clean it well and use JB weld to fill and smooth things out. It is sandable.

So what’s the deal on the impeller?

Does the timing cover interface on the block look good too? Had to weld mine.

I agree, that picture looks so clean, the active electrolysis doesn’t look that bad, and the impeller vanes are gone. Stupid question- Is it somehow backwards? How do the front cover inlets that mate up with the waterpump look? Those areas on the pump look good.

Welcome to electrolysis. Pretty common in these engines. Make sure your antifreeze is current. Might want to change it if its 2+ years, Is there no impeller left at all!!? Having an overheating problem?

Everybody has the same center support from Oldbuickparts/carsinc. No undersize bearings available to use with a bushing. Went to my machinist friend and he used brass shim material and pressed it. Too bad the parts not made right but hopefully that will be an acceptable solution.

Tried the search box and it doesn’t seem to pull up a specific posting very well so best is to go to the Feb 26 2016 posting for all the info.
