Thanks Jim, I just posted looking for these hoses and thought I’d take a look back at old posts and it paid off! In stock at my local parts store and I wiil pick these up.
The Jetfire we have has the orig front to back heater transfer pipe. The Cutlass has no pipe and I was thinking that the heater transfer pipe that runs along the head rotted…[Read more]

Suddenly realized I don’t have a source for the pre-formed heater hoses for the Cutlass and Jetfire. I took a look around at the usual suspects and don’t see a supplier. What is everyone doing for the pre-formed hoses??
Also need the front to back heater metal transfer tube and am thinking we will have to have those fabbed up, or is there a…[Read more]

Took a look, says 2″ thick, my guess is a custom wheel with 2″ more backspacing, which Wheel Vintiques could do, but I have no experience. If you don’t move the wheel center back in I would think there would be significant increased stress on the spindle and bearings.

I am not familiar with the adapters and wonder if you could give us some info on them. Sounds interesting. I imagine the manufacturer can help out with the increased backspacing requirement.
Thanks. -

There are few and getting fewer tire selections for 14″ wheels.. I went with 15″ steel wheels from Wheel Vintiques with the 4 lug pattern and am using 205 x 65 tires to keep the size in the somewhat classic style, lots of small cars (Honda Accord, camry…) use the size and tires should be available for a long time, could go bigger if you want.…[Read more]

Thanks Bruce, one of the Jetfires with glue in has a lot of rust damage on the bottom flange too. Don’t see your pics but I know the problem. Lucky enough to get a donor 62 buick special sedan front section for the upcoming bodywork.
So Jim, that jells with our glass guy who thought there was a mid-year change not shown as 62. Wish I had one of…[Read more]

Thanks Bruce! I knew there had to be someone out there who had done this. When I talked with Pilkington they stuck to their guns saying there was only one windshield for 62s, glue in or not. But in working with another supplier who was good enough to go into his warehouse and measure the glass we came to the same conclusion as you state above.…[Read more]

I have now talked with several windshield suppliers including Pilkington, a wholesaler, and retailers and everyone shows only one windshield for the 1962 F85s whether it is a 4 door sedan, a 2 door, a convertible, or a Jetfire. They do not differentiate between gasketed and glue-in.
They do show a different windshield for 63. I have a supplier…[Read more]

Thanks everyone for the info.Seems to be a consensus at this point. No special windshield for the Jetfire, but there are 2 different windshields depending on whether you have a gasketed or a glue in. That looks to be what the factory parts book is saying too.
Pilkiington sounds interesting, I’ll check them out.

I went to a dual res MC when I switched to front discs so the MC is designed for Disc/Drum. You can see the MC in the conversion from my post on Disc Brake Conversion from a little over 2 months ago. It is fairly small so it worked well without much clearancing. It might work with drum/drum if you set up a proportioning valve for that purpose,…[Read more]

I switched over to disc brakes up front and went with the braided stainless as part of my package. They have a little less expansion and may result in a firmer pedal but new rubber lines should be perfectly fine, especially for drum brakes.I also replaced all the orig hard lines with a stainless set from In Line Tube. Yes they have pre-bent steel…[Read more]

You might want to check out with the reliner how the racing linings work. I may be wrong about the linings you reference but most racing pads or shoes are made to work at the higher temps generated by heavy breaking at high speeds. They need to warm up to work right and street driving doesn’t do it. You may find they perform worse than standard…[Read more]

Thanks very much for the info you guys. What a good book to have. Scans are very clear.
Jim, your comment on windshield center measurement width jells with what we have measured-the two Jetfire glue-ins measures 24.375-24.5 while the gasketed windshield still in the conv is right about 24.
So I understand that the parts book simply groups all…[Read more] -

We are replacing windshields on a 62 Jetfire with a glue in windshield and on a 62 Cutlass Convertible with a gasket windshield. I have talked to some suppliers and they are showing the same windshield for both cars.
I thought the Jetfire was it’s own windshield but they show it crossing to several models.
Does anyone have experience/knowledge…[Read more]
