Some details on the 63 side trim… On the back edge of the front fenders for 63 have a silver painted area that goes from the back edge of the brushed aluminum trim to inside the door jamb area. If you ever repaint a 63 Jetfire, don’t forget to paint this silver area.

I finished installing the interior back into the car. I have cleaned it the best I can. I do believe with a little more patience I could get the seats even better. The trunk mat is stained far to bad to make look good but at least it is clean now. I am still waiting for my new order of K&N air filters but all I need to do is install the air…[Read more]

After hitting this car really hard for the first 3 weeks I have taken it easier for this past week. Each night after work I have driven this car 4 to 8 miles for a total of about 35 miles. The more I drive it the better it is running. It does have some blow by coming from the PCV but with 90,000 miles on old oil technology this does not surprise…[Read more]

Jim would be better to answer this. As far as “known” 62’s, I may have the only one. For 63, I believe there would be over 10 easy enough but that is just a guess. I did not keep track of the ones I know were factory 4 speed.

There is a 62 4 speed Jetfire that had the tags, engine and transmission put in a convertible but that don’t count…[Read more]

jensenracing77 replied to the topic Oil pump to turbo line in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 5 months ago

The pump to filter bowl reminded me, does anyone know what this bracket is for? I am assuming it is to hold the rubber return line but not sure. I am not seeing it in the assembly manual. I do not believe the 62 has this bracket but I could be wrong.

Not that I know of. I don’t have and never had a single car with an original on it. I would like to see what it is supposed to look like. I did think about sending them the filter bowl to carb line but I had enough nice originals I just had mine zinc plated. I may end up having that one done also. Do you have the pump to filter line?

I got the new tube from Inline Tube. It is a VERY close to perfect match. I test fit it on my extra engine and it will require a very minor tweak at the water outlet at the front of the intake. Nothing worth bringing to their attention.

I really like these because duplicating the really tight bend at the very end of the line (turbo side) is…[Read more]

jensenracing77 replied to the topic engine valves in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 5 months ago

For engine parts, I always feel you get what you pay for. I would not look for the best price. I would look for a quality set first and then look at price. Valves for these cars are readily available and most places will have them. Most machine shops will be able to get them and recommend the best ones for your use and application.

I did not find any documents under the seat of this car. I do have the Protecto Plates.

What stats on the show board?

I installed the carpet, back door panels and seats today. I am almost done with the interior. I took it for another drive. I went around the block (4 miles) and all went well. I stopped and checked the temp and it was only 170. I do not have a thermostat in it for now. I decided to go around the block again but it died on me after 1 mile. I called…[Read more]

Working on the brakes now and going really well. I can reuse all the brake lines (other than the rubber ones) and all the wheel cylinders and master are rebuildable. I believe I will be able to take this car for a drive by the end of the day Saturday!

Here is another video. I have it running really good now. I had changed oil in it before I started it up to begin with but after running it tonight for an hour I changed it again. Had an oil leak at the oil pump that I fixed also.

This video is not public so it is only by link. I will not likely post any more videos public till a later time. A…[Read more]

This 63 Jetfire I am working on has an oil pump to turbo line that has no extra bends in it. It is a little rusty but the bends are perfect still. I sent it to Inline Tube and they are going to start making them. I have two of them coming and they only charged me $25 each for the regular steel version. I will let you know how it fits when I get it…[Read more]

After an over 40 year hibernation it is alive!

I only had a float bowl full of gas in it so it only ran a couple seconds. I did not want the pump feeding more fuel to it till I knew what would happen. This way if there were a fire it did not have much gas to cause problems.

Well, Till I know more about the engine and how it runs I decided to just do a basic rebuild on the carburetor and put it back on the turbo and fluid system. I hate doing that because anyone restoring the car in the future will have to take apart everything I just done. If it don’t rain tomorrow I should be able to start the car up. I have not put…[Read more]

Still has the 4 speed distributor.

I was going to just clean out the carb and put it back on the car but it was to far gone. It needs completely rebuilt. Now I have to decide if I will put the rebuilt carburetor on my extra turbo (the first one on our automatic car that Jim built) and make it a working system. I had other plans for that turbo…[Read more]

I am using pet deodorizer to get the mouse pee smell out and it is working great. I had used dish soap and bleach and all kinds of stuff and it was getting much better but after using this I think the smell is completely gone. I will not know for sure till I leave it closed up and set it in the sun. That will be the best test.

    I pulled the tank…[Read more]

You can see in this picture that the first cam lobe is shot. There are others that are bad also but that is the worst one and the one I found the bent push rod on. I check the used cam from my wifes car with an NOS one I have. I just measured the overall lobe with the base circle. The used cam is correct on all lobes and no wear at all. I have to…[Read more]
