There are a couple cars that have been found with black engine bays. Different plants, different body color. Another mystery to be solved. I removed my wiper motor and the black paint under it is perfect.

Wow that is a big number. What is the letter code on the cover flange for the gear ratio? My 63 was built at Southgate also. January 4th week, body number 791. Is that close to your body number?

If we had the stock specs for the camshaft, it could be custom ground. A degree wheel would show it, or any cam grinder can put an original cam on a machine that would give the specs.
Here is the black oxide system, works great. Takes a couple minutes. -

What is the best camshaft to use? Crower 50227, 50228, 50229, or Elgin (Sealed Power) E364S. Which works best with the turbo?
Also I need a replacement boot for the clutch rod thru the firewall. -

Please show us some photos! The distributor is removed by taking out the hold down bolt and retainer.
I just replated several bolts using Eastwood electroplating kit. Also did several brackets and they came out great.
I will be using the cold method of black phosphate using magnesium oxide and distilled water on the motor bolts.

Original starter wire loom cover has missing section. A place called Restoration Supply Co has them in all sizes. They also have the white braided cover for the choke tube on automatic cars

Thanks, that’s good info. My 63 looks to have cut with some type of power shear, very straight like from a template. Curled metal still attached in some places.

Mac85 that’s great info. There must be a tool or a way to make a tool to remove the trim from the clips without breaking them.
