62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic 3.5L engine bearings in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 5 years, 10 months ago

D&D (aluminumV8.com) has it all except for some reason he told me cam bearings weren’t available when I bought a complete rebuild kit from him 2-3 years ago. He said to use the orig cam bearings which I didn’t like at all.

My machine shop had no problems and got the cam bearings.
TA Performance may have them as well. TA has some oil pump parts…[Read more]

AADCO. THE BRACKET PLATES ARE NOT GOOD. I HAVE A POST IN HERE SOMEWHERE ABOUT MY INSTALLATION AND CUSTOM BRACKET. DO A GOOGLE SEARCH FOR IT SINCE THE FORUM SEARCH FUNCTION IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE ON THE SITE.

I SHARED THE BERACKET REDISIGN WITH AADCO SO YOU CAN CHECK WITH THEM BUT IF THEY ARE STILL OFFERING THE SQUARE PLATES THEY HANG IN THE AIR.…[Read more]

62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic Color matching carpet supplier in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 5 years, 11 months ago

Yeah I know. Unfortunately my orig door panels with the lower patterned plastic were toast, due to the conditions I note above for the carpet. I was able to pick up some coupe door panels with carpet in very nice condition for a very reasonable price from a member vs. $900 each for repro from SMS. They look great and I’m happy with them, this…[Read more]

62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic Color matching carpet supplier in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 5 years, 11 months ago

No carpet. Convertible with 40 years of barn storage, some outside weather exposure, rats, squirrels left no carpet that wasn’t rotted away or mostly not there. Don’t want to touch the panel, it’s like new, very nice.

Had a thought about colors- does the floor carpet typically match the panel carpet or is it two tone like the seats? So if the p…[Read more]

I can’t seem to find my post from a short time ago on this subject so Im posting again.

It seems all the suppliers I found sell ACC carpet, or to be more specific ACC is a supplier to all the other retailers I found. SMS being the most expensive, ACC second, Stock Interiors a lot less, and others falling in line somewhere. They either advertise…[Read more]

I have no springs for the adjuster lever or the front back tensioned movement of the seat.

Evidently the seats for the Jetfire are different than the convertible seats. The two Jetfires here have a lever adjuster up the side of the seat with a “rotary” spring to tension of the adjusting lever while the two converts have the lever coming out the…[Read more]

Unfortunately, the son also had 2 4 speed cars sitting outside in the weeds with rust. This being Calif he figured no one would want them and sent them to the crusher before we got there to transport the other cars!

My friend bought 4 cars, station wagon which I believe Joe bought, two convertibles one of which I bought, and a Jetfire which he is restoring for one of the members here.

The owner of all the cars and the long term owner and driver of the Jetfire and family F85 station wagon was an air force test pilot who set a speed record in the F-86 Sabre.…[Read more]

I had mine rebuilt by D&D and the timing mark was OFF TDC. Had to remark it.

Check out TA Performance. They may have harmonic balancers, I don’t know but I doubt there’s a diff. I’d go for a new balancer vs. rebuilt if available. They are willing to talk and have good info. They specialize in Hi-po Buick engines including the 215. They carry the…[Read more]

62 Cutlass Convert replied to the topic Change roto5 to 200 4R in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 6 years, 2 months ago

I used a Buick flex plate from a 62 Skylark I believe, bought it from one of the members here. Works perfect. Had to be drilled and spacers used to adapt to the Th200c TC which I believe would be the same as the 4R TC=std GM. You can also use the original roto flywheel but it also needs to be drilled for the TC and has un-needed mass since you now…[Read more]

Don’t know this for sure but rather than mod your orig eng, why not go to a late Rover eng. Arguably a better eng overall with casting improvements, parts availability, modern injection system, factory larger displacement…Agin not positive but probably cheaper to do also. Those performance parts for the 215 are held very dear.
