Jim Noel replied to the topic 63 Automatic Cutlass 10.75 Compression? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 6 months ago

    Heads up,
, with the correct casting numbers and , easy to shave the other 2 heads down to 38cc’s. The 10.75/1, ’63 heads, shouldn’t be too hard to find, they made over 100,000 of them!

Jim Noel replied to the topic 63 Automatic Cutlass 10.75 Compression? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 6 months ago

    Heads up,
The compression in a 215 CID engine was changed with the size of the head cavity. The “volume” of a head is measured in cubic centimeters of liquid, usually water. The 10:75/1 automatic trans 1963 4 bbl engine has a 38cc head volume. The 4 bbl standard transmission and all Jetfire heads are 43cc or 10:25/1. The 2 bbl engines were all 51cc…[Read more]

Jim Noel replied to the topic Glove box light? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 6 months ago

    Hi Eric,
Your third picture #2155 is the glove box light. I recall seeing your second picture light #2154 and it seams like the shielded light with the small light hole is for the ash tray? Can’t recall what the other socket on the harness is for, maybe the radio?

Jim Noel replied to the topic Glove box light? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 6 months ago

    Hi Eric,
Have not looked in my 62-3 parts book but the part could be bought from a dealer and installed in a 62. A 1/2″ hole is drilled where the pilot hole is dimpled in the dash metal on the left side of the inside the edge of the glove box door. It then pops right in and shines through the window or hole in the glove box liner. They work great,…[Read more]

I have your automatic car as #12, 869. I have your “parts car” #898. Is this not correct?

    Hi Scott,
Yes, you are correct. The oil filler/breather cap should be black on a 1962, the 1963’s are red. Your PCValve is on the left valve cover. I have had the same problem with the exhaust pipes to and from the turbo unit. The aerosol, high temp, paint will not stick! I have only found the Eastwood high temp brush on paint to last. It has held…[Read more]

Jim Noel replied to the topic Transmission mounts in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 8 months ago

The first style transmission cross member for manual transmission 3 speed and “maybe” early 4 speed transmissions was a solid, with no rubber side attachment brackets, cross member. The second style manual transmission that was used for 4-speeds and maybe 3-speeds, from that point of introduction on, had a single rubber mount on the ends of the…[Read more]

From my records, the automatic trans mount was slightly taller than the manual trans mount. The parts book also shows different numbers for the mounts. For replacements I have used Steele Rubber to make new ones from the old one.

Jim Noel replied to the topic Battery cables in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 8 months ago

The 1963 Oldsmobile Service Manual states the battery cable should be removed with a “suitable tool to spread the spring clamp”
I never found a spring ring ground cable replacement strap that was the correct length but did find one that is longer for a Chevy Corvair. . .

    Hi Guys,
Received a call from Renu Gas Tank and was informed that my gas tank “is like new” and has NO leak! They thought that the gasket for the fuel pick-up & return + fuel level sender on the top of the tank has failed or the hose from the top of the tank to the top of the filler neck was leaking. They gave me a new gasket and the total charge…[Read more]

Jim Noel replied to the topic Carburetor tags in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 9 months ago

    Hi Eric,
I am trying to determine the difference in the 1963 Jetfire carbs that show 4 part numbers where the 1962 carbs only show 2 carb numbers. I have been under the impression that the change in design of the fuel bowl/float cover is the difference. I have seen both styles of float covers on 1963 set-ups. One does not have the “chimney” on the…[Read more]

    Thanks for the accolades guys!
Just when I thought this car is “ready to go”, I filled the gas tank for the first time this year (took ~10 gallons) and discovered that the gas tank has developed a leak. Will have to siphon the gas, drop the tank and see where the leak is. Fortunately, I have a dealer close. I have used their service before and…[Read more]
