Keep in mind that a larger bore increased pedal force requirements for a given braking force.

joe_padavano replied to the topic wheeel studs in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 7 years, 9 months ago
The factory studs are swaged in place after insertion. The CSM tells you to use a cutter tool to machine this swaged part off BEFORE pressing the stud out. Obviously your shop didn’t do this, which is why the hole is now oversized. Simply page through the Dorman catalog and you’ll find studs with larger splines that fit the oversize hole. I did…[Read more]

[quote quote=13728]so i dont mess with cutting the shock brace[/quote]
Why can’t you use the Fairmont M/C as discussed previously in this thread? Ports are on the side away from the brace. No cutting required.

Why do you need an “offset” M/C? I thought we covered the M/C options back in August.

I might be able to help you out there. The 62 Jetfire parts car has both windows. I’ve also got the complete power window setup for that car. I’ll check the condition of the metal parts over the weekend.

Eric,
Yes, the Skylarks are hardtops and yes the glass is the same. Olds restricted the hardtop to the Jetfires, but Buick used it on all Skylark coupes. Of course, it’s just flat glass so any auto glass shop can cut new glass to fit. I got brand new vent window glass for my 62 wagon.

joe_padavano replied to the topic 1962 side mirror in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 8 years, 2 months ago
The 61-62 full size mirror is not the same as the F-85 mirror. The base is different. The mirror for the full size cars sits on the fender peak and thus has a “V” notch in the base. The F-85 mirror has a flat base. The round mirror heads are the same, it’s the base that is different. I bought a 62 full size mirror at Carlisle with the intention…[Read more]

[quote quote=13338]”I know they are stronger, that’s why I said Without going with rover block. I’m just weird, it has to be an olds block”[/quote]
Understand, but I got over that. I’m building a 4.6 Rover block with 300 Buick crank (gets me about 298 cu in) and adapting the Olds heads so it looks “correct”. Hollow pushrods fix the oiling dif…[Read more]

The later Rover blocks with cross bolted mains and improved casting technology are stronger.

Here’s a bit of info. According to that April 62 parts book, Olds did not list a bare block, only a block assembly that included the fitted pistons, rings, and cam and main bearings. The 2bl, 4bbl, and Jetfire block assemblies all had different part numbers, primarily due to the different pistons. There is no indication of any differences in the…[Read more]

Unfortunately, the page numbers in the browser URL aren’t sequential and don’t correspond to anything. I have no idea why they did this, but it is just stupid. The Search function is the easiest way to navigate.

Eric,
Unfortunately the site isn’t that user friendly, so you do have to go page-by-page. You can also jump to the next section using the hyperlinks in the upper RH and LH corners of the page. Also, there is a search function that lets you search terms or group numbers.

For those who are not aware of the site gmpartswiki.com, that site has a pretty large selection of GM parts and illustrations books available on line for free. Most are Chevy books, but of interest to this group is the April 1962 update to the Oldsmobile parts and accessories catalog. The cover page says Dec 1961, but it actually is the April 62…[Read more]

Apparently I need to be more explicit.
The 61-63 axle and the 7.5″ axle in the S-10 are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
NOTHING interchanges, swaps, or “bolts in”.
Does that answer both halves?

Well, an S10 uses leaf springs and the F85 uses coil springs.
I’m going to go with “no”…

I’ve heard too many stories like this over the years. They NEVER have a scrap of documentation to back them up. I’m also aware of several “Jetfire” convertibles. Not one was factory built.

You aren’t going to find anything that will bolt in. These cars aren’t popular enough for a company like Ididit to market one. You will need to have one custom built or modify one yourself. Ididit sells column shift versions, but you will need to fabricate a linkage to match. The only bolt-in columns are the 1961-63 F-85 and Skylark columns.…[Read more]

The orientation of which end of the dual M/C feeds which end of the car depends on the source of the M/C. GM typically (but not always) fed the front brakes from the front of the dual M/C. so GM disk/drum M/Cs tend to have the larger reservoir in the front. Ford and Chrysler typically fed the front brakes from the back of the M/C, so the Fairmont…[Read more]
