I agree with Eric on the leather style accelerator pump whether for the Jetfire carb or 4 barrel Cutlasss carb. Way better than the rubber replacement. It recovers well after longer periods of storage when the carb. is primed properly compared to the rubber version. Worth the extra $$.

Awesome! That is a great find Sandy. Do you plan to keep it or sell it off when you’re complete? Also, is that an aftermarket manual choke control I see in the photo of the heater controls? Please keep the thread going with photos as you proceed.

I hope Rick Perkins doesn’t mind. It would be a nice gesture to pay tribute to Jim Perkins who founded this website 10 years ago or so. Jim passed away a few years ago and his son Rick currently maintains and funds the website for all of us to enjoy and share knowledge. Thanks go to Rick for continuing with a part of Jim’s legacy that we all…[Read more]

That’s an excellent shot of the way the generic F85 floor tunnel stamping from the Fisher body plant was cut and patched only on cars with 4 speed transmissions. Mine looked very much identical to that. It’s great to see the progress of Eric and everyone else on this website who has a current project. Keep the photos and updates coming. If my…[Read more]

My 1963 has a factory black engine compartment as well as the 2M on the cowl tag but I don’t know if the 2M is related to it. It’s Midnight Mist body color and it was built later in ’63. Production date July 25, 1963 at the Lansing plant.

I took my car all the way down to bare metal so I removed the trim. It was a PITA and I used several different size screwdrivers and a couple of plastic paint scrapers and a lot of patience. I have a Cutlass so I had to remove the snap on stainless trim around the windows too. I got everything off without damaging it. I bought all the…[Read more]

If you’re able to find one, the factory manual lists tool #J-7898-01 for the reveal molding trim removal. Here’s the factory manual page with a photo and instructions how to use it.

I believe the back window in the Jetfire and Cutlass is the same, both 1962 and 1963. Here are some excerpts from the ’63 factory service manual for the back window. Steele does make the back window gasket. I used one and it worked great, no leaks. Here’s a copy of the Steele instructions. All of my trim clips for the top and side trim pie…[Read more]

I agree. All the material from this article, along with some nice quality photos of all your Jetfires at the Olds Homecoming, would make a really good article for a widely spread national publication such as Hemmings Classic Car Magazine. Eric, if you’re interested you might want to contact the executive editor. His name is Richard Lentinello.…[Read more]

Hey John,
Do you remember if the see-through hoods on the Shaudy’s car and the one you almost got were something a dealer could special order or do you think they were fabricated by a shop or private owner?

I ran across a photo of a ’62 Jetfire with a see-through hood. Does anyone know anything about it? Was it a manufacturer’s display model at one time or custom made by someone else? Looks like it has 15″ wheels. And I wonder if the dual hood trim has been cut where the opening is or removed all-together? Also there is some kind of tacked on…[Read more]

What if Oldsmobile differentiated the Jetfire further from the other models in the F-85 line? I was having some winter boredom and wondered what the Jetfire would look like with a “bubble top” similar to what was used on the 1961 full size Olds. Maybe a hardtop version of the Corvair “bubble top” instead of the Buick hardtop that was used.…[Read more]

I had one of my emblems restored by Iverson Automotive and he did a great job fixing the pits and re-chroming it. His shop is in Minnetonka, Minnesota. I did the painted parts of it myself. I shopped around and they were the least expensive, Paul’s Chrome was the most expensive at a little over 3 times the cost of Iverson. I got pricing from 3 o…[Read more]
