It would be a great help if you could give us the Fram number of this round air filter you made oval, to fit a Jetfire air cleaner canister. I have reviewed all the Fram filters by size (Fram-on line catalog available as a .PDF) and nothing is even close?? The original paper air filter is AC Brand A146C. If I were to duplicate…[Read more]

Not quite sure just how to help you out? Jetfire, turbocharged cars, were offered in 1962 and 1963. 1961 Oldsmobile F-85’s did NOT offer a turbocharged car. As for your question, the red color applied to the (1962 only) compressor housing and by-pass controller was mixed to match the red porcelain finish applied to the turbine housing. I have…[Read more]

Jim Noel started the topic Exhaust System Mufflers in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 13 years, 6 months ago
Hi All,
Several people have asked about mufflers for the Jetfire Turborockets. They are getting hard to find! The dual outlet, single inlet mufflers offered by Oldsmobile were for the Cutlass 4-bbl (that is the way GM lists them even though all Cutlass’ were 4-bbl) and Jetfire. The difference was the size of the inlet pipe. The Cutlass muffler…[Read more]

Also, I forgot to mention that you need to use the Jetfire metal mounting bracket. It is an easy switch. I have not found a new choke pull-off with the Jetfire style bracket.

Hi you two,
I don’t know the official nomenclature for the auto trans flex plate, however, I have two 215 cid auto trans flex plates, as well as three auto trans flywheels. They would need some clean-up but both should work fine. Will sell the flex plate or flex plate and flywheel, whatever you need. Priority for first selection would go to a…[Read more] -

I do believe the first Jetfire cars were not sold until April 20, 1962. The factory had made a couple thousand, in advance, and had shipped to all dealers for the introduction day. At our Oldsmobile dealership in the Minneapolis area, I recall seeing a Jetfire that was covered and hidden in the service area of the dealership in early April of…[Read more]

Hi Eric,
I have had good success repairing the silicone grommet with Permatex Ultra Grey RTV silicone sealer. Clean the grommet squeaky clean then apply the RTV sealer from the inside to the split area. A thin coating works well. Let the RTV ‘cure’ for 24 hours. When installing the grommet to the valve cover oil return nipple, secure with a small…[Read more] -

Might be a good time to check your rocker arm shafts. More often than not they are bent!! The head through bolts tend to make the aluminum brackets slightly out of round, tough to slide off the shaft. Squeeze them ‘slightly’ in a vise 90 degrees from the bolt hole for easy removal. Roll your bare shaft on a flat surface to check if it is straight.…[Read more]

I do believe you are correct and I was wrong! They look like the isolation mount bushings. Three used to mount Y frame to body forks.

Hi All,
I have found and added the option groups that were offered for our little F-85’s. These groups of options were available at a lower price than buying the popular options separately. Thanks to Barney for some of this info!
Still need some 63 option prices. Anyone have some of these?

I would like to see any dealer invoice and window stickers from new 1961 to 1963 F-85’s that you may have. I do not know where to find the valve cover PCV grommet. Have always reused what was there. Just lucky! The PCV vacuum source is on the front-top of the throttle body. Brass tap. See attached pic’s.
