They have arrived! I now have reproductions of the foot flange gasket available and are made right here in the USA! I have test fit one to a manifold and turbo but I have not mounted one to a car yet. I have all confidence that these will seal exactly like they should and need no sealer.
These are softer than the originals. The manufacturer…[Read more]

I just got the order of foot flange gaskets also. if you still want two of them I can put them in the same box and would not affect shipping. If you still want them then make it $406 total. I was going to post the official announcement they are available later tonight.

I guess we will just have to keep guessing on the 2M, lol. Mysteries of production are fun to try and figure out. You with the most unique cowl tag award though with the XXX paint code.

For sure a good date. I am sure all the dates on that car are perfect. I started a notebook for my car’s dates. I would say roughly 75% of all parts have date codes on them, just a mater of finding them and decipher the code. Now I am wanting to find a late 62 or early printing of the codes. Not sure they ever printed one.

I can do a check or pay pal. If pay pal I would prefer it as a friend or family so I don’t have any fees. Usually shipping is right close to $11 for these so $146 total will be fine. My Pay Pal is jensenracing77@yahoo.com

The mysterious 2M on some of the 63 cowl tags, I wonder how those correlate to cars with body color to cars with black paint in the engine compartment? Whatever 2M is, it has to be involved with Fisher body to be on the cowl tag and this paint would be also Fisher body. Just a thought and wondering if we have enough 63 data to make this…[Read more]

Oaklyss, that number represents the rear end code for the assembly worker. My code book was printed in July of 62 for the 63 model year and this code does not appear in it so I am betting it had a running change on the rear end and the code is a little newer than my book.
Sandy, That cover will have numbers stamped in it on the right side…[Read more]

Just got some great news. They are shipping me two of them to try out and should have them around the end of the week. If it shows up on time I will install one on my wife’s automatic car Saturday and see how it does. I will keep you posted.

It should really be put on a cam doctor to really get it right. A friend had a cam checked on a cam doctor and it was really expensive to have done. I did not look into it myself but thought about it.

I just found the engine build sheet from D&D for that 4 speed car I had. No wonder it was so much more than our automatic car. For sure a more performance cam
Block decked .003
deck height .023-.026
head chambers 41-42 cc (I assume they cut them a little)
pistons Egge pistons.040
compression right at 10.0:1

Sandy, I had a distributor corroded to the front cover one time. It was so bad I ended up braking it trying to get it apart. If that is your problem then be careful.
oaklyss, I lost track of what one we put in our automatic car but it is one of the Crower cams. I got it from D&D as a kit with the lifters and timing set. His kit number is…[Read more]

I forgot to mention, The manganese phosphate is the dark gray or black looking parts. The zinc phosphate is a really light gray and is mostly used as a base for paint. The valve covers, air cleaner, and many parts were zinc phosphated originally before they painted them. I would assume that primer is just as good but I will have a few parts powder…[Read more]

I am using Manganese and also Zinc phosphate. I was making my own solutions but couldn’t get it exactly right when I was testing it last winter. I decided to purchase the solution from Anthony Owens aso9592@gmail.com and it is working great. You have to follow the directions exactly. When it says to coat the parts when you are done three time with…[Read more]

Decided to pull apart the transmission this morning. I found the slightest hint of orange paint still beside the speedometer boss. The orange paint there in 62 means 15 inch wheels and 3.36 rear gears. I checked the end play on everything and all was well within specs. With 44,000 miles I figured it would. I will reuse all the thrust washers as…[Read more]

I was looking for my best filler plate today and found that the Cutlass does not have the arch cut out for the dual outlet exhaust. I assumed they made them all the same. If you install one from a Cutlass or put a dual outlet setup on your Cutlass you would need to cut this out. That or hang the exhaust slightly lower.

Still slowly chugging along. Mostly cleaning and phosphating parts but it gets so boring that now and then I have to stop and put an assembly of some kind together. I pulled the insulation off this hood and it has the 147 with a circle around it just like my automatic car did. I will do the same thing before I install the new hood insulation.
