Thanks, John. I appreciate it. Or, if you just want to measure it and let me know the dimensions that would work too. I could then have one made. I think I would only need to know the length of the pipe, the diameter hose it fits, the distance from the end of the pipe to the nipple. Pretty sure the nipple is 1/4 inch and about an inch long.…[Read more]

Or, if someone just gave me the dimensions of the pipe, I should be able to use that to have one fabricated. Thanks.

Yup. I took a look at my books and it looks like my transfer pipe is not original and has been fabricated. Any idea where I can get an original transfer pipe? I could even just borrow one as a model to copy and fabricate a new one and then return it. Any help on this is appreciated.

Thanks, Jim. That is very helpful. My transfer pipe has a slight bend in it after the nipple bending toward the heater core area. Does that seem normal? I don’t know why it wouldn’t be the original piece.

BruceM replied to the topic Transmission help needed… in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years, 11 months ago

D&D in Michigan (www.aluminumv8.com) can help you find a transmission adapter for a transmission. They can probably help you find an original 3 speed for that engine too. They are a great resource for these things. Check them out. Good luck!

    Jim,

What is the routing of the “J” shaped hose that is specific to the Jetfire? I think I will need to pick one up for my current project. Thanks.

BruceM replied to the topic Jetfire Windshield Replacement in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years, 11 months ago

Oh good! Nice to hear. I know the one I got is correct. I haven’t installed it yet, but we needed it to make sure it fit in the windshield window channel because I had to do some rust repair in the window channel. It fit fine. One thing I’ve noticed is that many of the glue-in windshields end up with significant rust damage in the bottom of…[Read more]

BruceM replied to the topic Jetfire Windshield Replacement in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 9 years, 12 months ago

I bought a glue-in windshield for my ’62 Jetfire restoration project from Pilkington and they had a different listing for the glue-in and the gasket. The ’63 is the same windshield as the ’62. I pulled my invoice from Pilkington and they have it listed as a ’63 with part number DW00623 GS3. Their books may not go back to ’62 or they don’t have…[Read more]

The only thing I can think of for the Jetfire fender emblems is to find a car in a junkyard. Desert Valley in the Phoenix area had two or three ’62 Jetfires not too long ago. There was a ’62 in an old car junk yard in Wendell, Idaho quite a few years ago. I don’t know if it’s still there. Some of these specialty old car yards advertise in the…[Read more]

Pilkington Classics (I think they are in Ohio, or maybe Illinois) supplies correct windshields for these cars with the LOF logos and date codes. They know the difference between the glue in and gasket windshields and carry both. Not cheap, but definitely correct.

I understand that all F-85 (Cutlass, Jetfire, F-85) windshields are the same. In…[Read more]

BruceM replied to the topic Need gray carpet set for 62 Jetfire in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 10 years ago

You might try contacting Harry Samuel in Michigan. He has NOS carpet sets. They are pricey, but they are exactly correct in color and fit. The cars with the automatic on the floor and the console have a two piece front carpet, whereas the automatics on the column and four speeds have a one piece front. The rear pieces are all the same.

BruceM replied to the topic Wanting an NOS 62 tail light housing in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 10 years ago

I took a picture to show you the difference. The housing with the smaller hole is the inboard housing that has the taillight only bulb socket. The larger hole is outboard and fits the bulb socket with the brake light, turn signal and taillight. It seems that the outboard housings are easier to find NOS. It might be possible to use an outboard…[Read more]

Jaswest in Canada reproduces the brushed aluminum inserts. I got a set for my ’62 restoration project and they are EXACTLY correct. He did a nice job. He advertises in JWO for Starfire inserts, but he also does the Jetfire. They cost $1000 plus shipping and customs clearance, which was about another $100 bucks total.

Inboard or outboard? The outboard housings have a larger hole in back to fit the taillight bulb and socket.

Never mind. I found one at Turner’s Auto Wrecking in Fresno, California. They have a ’63 Jetfire in their yard. Price was reasonable.

BruceM replied to the topic Master Cylinder question? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 10 years, 3 months ago

It may be off of a Buick Skylark/Special. I recall that the master cylinder plumbing coming out of the master cylinder routed differently from the Olds. You could probably find an original Special/Skylark and eyeball it to compare its M/C with yours.

BruceM started the topic Need Vent Window Glass for a '63 in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 10 years, 3 months ago

I need only one vent window glass piece for a ’63 F-85/Cutlass/Jetfire. The words “solid tempered” are etched in the class with the LOF logo. This is different from a ’62 (which says “laminated”) or a ’61 (which says “solid”). Every piece I’ve seen for a ’62 has the lamination coming apart with bubbling and yellowing and it looks terrible.…[Read more]
