No, just get them re-sleeved by a brake restore company. Lots of them on the net.

I believe they should be spring ring, that strap looks correct. If you find another, I need one too.

These cars only weigh 2700 lbs, There is really not reason to go 5 lug. Plenty of nice wheels. If you rebuild the brakes properly, the stock drums are more then sufficient. I never had a need for disc brakes. These are rare cars and imho should be left stock

Where were the floor pans modified for the 4 speed trans tunnel? Was it at Fisher Body or at Oldsmobile? Hard to believe Fisher would do the trans tunnel mod that way.

Eric, thanks for posting that tag! That’s the 98th Jetfire made! Anyone ever see a lower number?
Save that car, it may be the earliest ever found. -

Jim, my 62 had air conditioning and no stamps at all in the ACC line.
But a/c could be dealer installed and no way to tell. The assembly line manual outlines the installation, but it would take a lot of work at the dealer to install it. -

I got mine from SMS. It’s Naugahyde, original material and tough. Mine had the logo of the Naugahyde “creature” on the back side.

I just checked the home page that says April 20 was when they were introduced, So if your car is 04B, that’s April, 2nd week for production. Looks like you have one of the first ones so you will have to restore it and not use it for parts! Curious to see how low the body number is.

Eric, that’s a very early Jetfire. I believe April was the first month of production. Whats the body number on the tag, your photo doesn’t show it all?

Greg Oakley replied to the topic Hood Hinge Springs in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 8 years, 1 month ago
Eric
You will not find hood springs, but you can find a set of used hinges with springs that may be better. If the back of the hood stays up when closed, that indicates worn hinge rivets and there are places that do a great job of rebuilding them. If the hood won’t stay up, maybe new rivets will help, and they will check your springs. -

I took mine apart to rebuild and was wondering what to use for a new diaphragm? (It’s the dealer installed external valve)

That is a significant find right there. If that’s the original lacquer paint then it must have been stored inside most of its life. Please keep the photos coming!

Here are the latest photos of my Jet, I cleaned it up and put some 15″ wheels on for now to make it drive able. Rebuilt brakes, distributor, cooling system, etc. and it runs real good, turbo works also. The color is very rare and kind of a love it or hate it. But once I got used to it, its actually starting to look good. Is something wrong with me?

All vacuum and boost gauges work the same with a copper coil inside that expands and contracts, so it should be cheap to get fixed. I have an extra one but it does not work and I am trying to fix it.I think the coils get clogged.

Greg Oakley replied to the topic 1962 Jetfire – Convertable? from factory? in the forum Discussion Topics – Ask the Experts 8 years, 5 months ago
That tag is not from your car. Unless someone cut the roof off and made it a convertible. The tag says it’s a Hard Top. Someone parted out a Jetfire and put it all on a convertible. The factory would never use the wrong body style code for production. It can’t work that way. If it was a “factory convertible” Jetfire, the tag would still have a 3167…[Read more]
